Uncle Hồ in the heart of Điện Biên’s people

ĐBP -  Although President Hồ Chí Minh passed away 56 years ago, his image and the stories about him still reside deeply in the hearts of people of Điện Biên province in particular, and of all ethnic communities in the Northwestern region in general. Every May, as his birthday approaches, thousands of hearts stir with sacred reverence and infinite gratitude, renewing their vow to follow his teachings.

Spring returns to the border, dear Uncle Hồ
White ban (bauhinia) flower blooms across western hills
Điện Biên shines in beauty today
But the people’s hearts remember you, night and day

These heartfelt verses are a unique expression of affection from poet Lê Mạnh Huyền, a resident of Residential Quarter 10, Tân Thanh ward, Điện Biên Phủ city, dedicated to President Hồ Chí Minh.

Poet Lê Mạnh Huyền (in white shirt) introduces the poems he wrote about President Hồ Chí Minh.

Turning the pages of his poetry collection “The soul of the land, the love of the people,” Lê Mạnh Huyền introduces five poems he composed in tribute to President Hồ Chí Minh. Each line carries his deep sentiments and admiration for the beloved leader. For him, writing poetry about President Hồ Chí Minh is not only an expression of admiration for a great leader, but also a personal path to self-reflection and moral cultivation, striving to become a revolutionary individual and a responsible citizen of society.

Lê Mạnh Huyền shared: “To me, the affection I hold for Uncle Hồ is something sacred. Whenever I think of him, a surge of emotion wells up inside me. From that feeling, I wrote these poems as a way to express my love and respect for our beloved leader”.

For war veteran Nguyễn Văn Kỷ, from Team 17, Thanh Xương commune, Điện Biên district, the teachings of President Hồ Chí Minh remain deeply ingrained in his life:

“Heaven has four seasons: Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter

Earth has four directions: East, West, South, North

People have four virtues: Diligence, Thrift, Integrity, Righteousness

Missing a season, there is no heaven

Missing a direction, there is no Earth

Lacking a virtue, one cannot be a true person”.

These words have been his compass through his revolutionary life and in educating his children and grandchildren.

War veteran Nguyễn Văn Kỷ hangs a portrait of Uncle Hồ in his home to inspire and remind his descendants to follow Hồ Chí Minh’s example.

In his modest home, for many years, the image of President Hồ Chí Minh has held the most respectful place in the living room. Nguyễn Văn Kỷ says that seeing Uncle Hồ’s portrait serves as a constant reminder for every family member to study and follow his moral example through tangible, meaningful actions. From there, each person contributes to building a prosperous and happy family and homeland.

Emulating the five teachings of Uncle Hồ, in recent years, the children of Điện Biên have tirelessly strived to develop both virtue and talent, demonstrating intelligence, bravery, and solidarity. They have achieved outstanding accomplishments, forming vibrant blossoms offered in tribute to Uncle Hồ.

At the recent 12th provincial Congress of Uncle Hồ’s Good Children in 2025, 150 exemplary members of the Hồ Chí Minh young pioneer organization were honored for their remarkable achievements in the movement “Điện Biên children emulate the five teachings of Uncle Hồ”. These children represent the most beautiful flowers in the garden dedicated to him.

Among them is Nguyễn Thùy Dương, Grade 8C3, Him Lam Secondary School, Điện Biên Phủ City, who won 2 gold and 2 silver medals at the national youth badminton championship; Trương Quang Khải, Grade 9A1, Mường Ảng town Secondary School, Mường Ảng district -  an excellent team commander and high-achieving student in various academic competitions; and Vừ Kha Say, from the Ethnic Semi-boarding Primary and Secondary School of Na Ư commune, Điện Biên district - despite facing an extremely difficult family situation, being raised by grandparents without parental care, has always strived for success and gained different academic achievements.

Outstanding “Uncle Hồ’s good children” are the most beautiful blossoms in the garden offered to President Hồ Chí Minh.

And there are many more such “little flowers” spreading fragrance in the garden dedicated to Uncle Hồ. These children are shining examples of learning and self-discipline, constantly nurturing moral virtues to become good children and exemplary students, worthy of the title “Uncle Hồ’s good children”.

Throughout his life, President Hồ Chí Minh devoted himself entirely to the cause of national liberation and unification, bringing freedom, peace, and happiness to the people. Deeply moved by his boundless love and immeasurable sacrifices, each citizen of Điện Biên continues to take his teachings as a guiding light -  striving to study, work, and contribute to society. Through practical deeds and actions, the ethnic communities of Điện Biên are working together to build a prosperous, peaceful borderland, fulfilling his heartfelt wish.
