Born into a farming family in A Pa Chải village within the remote border commune of Sín Thầu, Điện Biên province, Lỳ Cẩm Nhung grew up amidst the simple life at the Fatherland’s westernmost frontier. Her family’s care served as the foundation for Nhung to strive forward, proactively study, and actively participate in school activities. For consecutive years, she has earned the title of excellent student and remained enthusiastically involved in Youth Union work, collective activities, and summer volunteer programs.
Diligent in her studies, dynamic in Youth Union work, and gifted with creativity, Nhung is progressively asserting herself through practical and meaningful endeavors.
From her middle school years at Sín Thầu Semi-Boarding Primary and Secondary School to becoming a 12C3 student at Mường Nhé Ethnic Boarding High School, Lỳ Cẩm Nhung has always sought opportunities to experience and test her mettle in new fields. For her, studying is not merely about absorbing classroom knowledge; it is a process of discovering her own capabilities, learning to collaborate, and applying what she has learned to daily life. This spirit is reflected in the achievements she has garnered across intellectual, cultural, and creative arenas.
In the 2025-2026 school year, Nhung won Third Prize in the National Traffic Safety Competition. To complete her entry, she and her Technology teacher, Trần Thị Mai Anh, spent days researching multiple-choice questions, developing video content, and addressing traffic scenarios.
The preparation process not only helped Nhung consolidate her legal knowledge but also honed her capacity for logical thinking, creativity, and collaborating with her guiding teacher. Analyzing traffic scenarios also helped her better understand personal responsibilities when participating in traffic, ranging from complying with regulations to maintaining a conscious effort to protect the safety of herself and the community. The award stands as a testament to the efforts of both teacher and student, providing added motivation for Nhung to continue participating in wholesome educational platforms.
Beyond her passion for knowledge, Nhung is gifted in painting. She often independently explores sketching and stylizing the traditional attire of the Hà Nhì people, experimenting with color combinations and imagery based on her unique concepts.
This passion shone brightly when Nhung entered the Dissemination Painting - Poster Design segment of the “Drug-Free School in 2026” Competition, recently co-organized by the provincial Police and the Department of Education and Training. Her artwork, titled “Building a drug-free school,” advanced to the final round.
In the painting, Nhung adeptly incorporated the figures of police officers, teachers, students, and parents joining hands to build a safe, drug-free school environment. If the police officer represents legal communication and dissemination, the teacher embodies knowledge and guidance, helping students understand how to protect themselves from temptations. The family serves as a loving anchor, where every young person receives care, protection, and orientation on their journey to adulthood.
Nhung conveyed this message through the pairing of two contrasting color palettes. Bright, vibrant hues evoke faith and hope for the future, while images of syringes and dark tones highlight the perils that narcotics can inflict, impacting everything from health and family happiness to individual futures.
Prominent amidst the composition is an encompassing arm, symbolizing the united effort of the family, school, and society in protecting the younger generation. Upon the hands, small flowers evoke green sprouts that must be nurtured and cultivated with love and education to grow healthily toward the good.
Lỳ Cẩm Nhung shared that from conceptualization to completion, she spent about three days working on the piece, finishing it before the National Day holiday on September 2, 2026. Through every detail, she aimed to convey a message: Drug prevention and combat is not solely the responsibility of functional forces but requires the attention and coordination of families, schools, and the whole of society.
If painting helps Nhung express her thoughts visually, books open up new perspectives on humanity, history, and her homeland. At the 2026 Điện Biên Province Book Storytelling Contest, she won Third Prize with a story about hero Trần Văn Thọ. Nhung chose the story of the martyred hero Trần Văn Thọ because it is deeply tied to Sín Thầu - her homeland - and she wanted more people to know about the historical exemplars of her native land.
Researching the figure, selecting the content, and presenting the story to an audience helped Nhung hone her expressive abilities, confidence, and love for reading. To her, the values within books become much more relatable when shared and spread among friends.
Teacher Cao Văn Tuấn, a Mathematics teacher and homeroom teacher of class 12C3 at Mường Nhé Ethnic Boarding High School, remarked that Nhung is an agile, dynamic student who is enthusiastic in her studies and class activities. Her proactivity and eagerness to learn grant her added opportunities to leverage her strengths while accumulating vital skills for the journey ahead.
From A Pa Chải village at the westernmost tip of the Fatherland, Lỳ Cẩm Nhung is writing her youth’s journey through diligence and a daring spirit.
Her awards bring joy to her family, teachers, and school, but what is even more precious is how she proactively learns, unleashes her talents, and directs her endeavors toward the community. This also serves as a source of encouragement for highland students to confidently explore their capabilities, nurture their dreams, and forge their futures through their own efforts.
