“Common roof” for journalists

ĐBP - Alongside the press community nationwide, in recent years, the Điện Biên provincial Journalists’ Association has continuously innovated its activities and approaches, enhanced its professional work, and met the needs and developments of journalism during the period of renewal. In particular, the association has united its members and contributed to successfully implementing the province’s political tasks, making the organization a “common roof” for journalists.

In recent years, the Standing Committee of the provincial Journalists’ Association has focused on conveying to journalists, officials, and members the guidelines, policies, and resolutions of the Party, as well as the State’s laws and policies. The association has implemented the Journalists’ Code of Ethics and the Law on Journalism, combined with the study and practice of the thoughts, ethics, and style of President Ho Chi Minh, strengthening Party building, preventing political and moral degradation, and combating the manifestations of “self-evolution” and “self-transformation” within the organization. The Association also implements the Secretariat’s Directive No.43-CT/TW on “Enhancing the Party’s leadership over the activities of the Vietnam Journalists’ Association in the new situation.”

Annually, the provincial Journalists’ Association focuses on leading and guiding the political thought education, ensuring political integrity, adhering to ethical standards, fulfilling social responsibilities, and journalists’ civic duties. It also strictly adheres to regulations on speech discipline, behavior rules, and the use of social media by journalists, creating a cultural environment in press agencies and promoting the journalistic culture that aligns with the province’s directives and goals.

The association continuously innovates both qualitatively and quantitatively, organizing meaningful and practical activities such as the annual Spring Press Festival, and the “Người Làm Báo Điện Biên” special edition, which is published bi-monthly. The special edition has become a forum for professional exchanges, spreading the spirit of professional journalism, courage, and responsibility. The special edition is highly regarded and widely distributed to agencies and departments in the province and across 63 other provinces and cities.

Reporters and editors from Điện Biên Phủ Newspaper and media agencies across the province participate in a multimedia content production training session organized by the provincial Journalists’ Association.

To create a high-quality and attractive professional space to attract members, since 2021, the association has advised the provincial People’s Committee to issue a Plan and Regulations for the annual Provincial Journalism Awards. Every year, hundreds of works participate, creating a healthy platform that encourages creativity among journalists. The association also promotes and participates in various journalism competitions organized by the Government, ministries, agencies, and associations, including: the journalism competition on “Culture of Thang Long - Hanoi convergence and dissemination,” organized by the Hanoi Journalists’ Association; the literary, art, and journalism award on “Studying and following the thoughts, ethics, and style of Hồ Chí Minh” for the period 2023-2025 in Điện Biên; the “Golden Hammer and Sickle” Award for journalism on Party building (for the 9th time in 2024); and the national journalism competition on anti-corruption and negative phenomena.

Following directives from higher levels, the provincial Journalists’ Association has led and guided its branches to actively adapt, accelerating digital transformation, creating new momentum in professional activities, affirming that journalism is a bridge between the Party, State, and the people. Journalism plays a leading role in reflecting the developments of social life, the legitimate desires of the people, discovering and promoting new factors, role models, and achievements in the cause of renewal.

Additionally, the association focuses on improving the quality and professional expertise of journalists. Every year, the association cooperates with the Vietnam Journalists’ Association, Điện Biên Phủ Newspaper, and the provincial Radio and Television to organize training courses on skills for producing and editing content, publishing on digital platforms, and enhancing the quality of works.

The association’s chapter in the Điện Biên Phủ Newspaper has cooperated with the newspaper’s Editorial Board and professional departments to direct journalists, reporters, and editors to complete the planned publicity tasks and publications. In 2024, the Điện Biên Phủ Newspaper published 241 issues, including 158 current affairs issues, 47 weekend editions, and 36 issues dedicated to ethnic minorities in mountainous regions. Journalists, reporters, and editors in the branch actively participated in the movement to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Điện Biên Phủ Victory (May 7, 1954 - May 7, 2024), the National Tourism Year 2024 in Điện Biên, and the 60th anniversary of Điện Biên Phủ Newspaper’s first publication (May 1, 1964 – May 1, 2024). As a result, over 2,800 works were created and published across 4 publications, and more than 1,000 news, articles, and photos were posted on the Điện Biên Phủ Newspaper electronic fanpage and YouTube channel. The branch also received 38 awards in national and provincial journalism competitions.

Building on the spirit of innovation, creativity, and development, the Provincial Journalists’ Association continues to enhance the political qualities, ethics, and professional expertise of its members, fulfilling the province’s political tasks. The association strives to make the provincial Journalists’ Association truly a “common roof” for journalists.
