10th Swallowtail Boat Racing Festival and the 5th National Paragliding Club Championship opens

ĐBP - On the evening of January 3, the 10th Swallowtail Boat Racing Festival, the 5th National Paragliding Club Championship, and the 1st Jet Surfing Tournament of 2025 officially opened in Mường Lay Town, Điện Biên Province.

The ceremony was attended by notable leaders, including Mrs. Giàng Thi Hoa, Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee and Vice Chairwoman of the Provincial People’s Council; and Mr. Phạm Đức Toàn, Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee and Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee, among others.

The 10th Swallowtail Boat Racing Festival, the 5th National Paragliding Club Championship, and the 1st Jet Surfing Tournament feature diverse and exciting activities such as swallowtail boat racing (for men’s and mixed gender), paragliding and jet surfing competitions, ethnic minority groups’ traditional sports, and folk games. Additionally, the event includes cultural and tourism exhibitions, showcasing local agricultural products, hands-on experiences like jet surfing, paragliding, and reservoir tourism, trekking tours, cultural exchange performances, traditional costume displays, and unique folk-art performances, particularly from the White Thái ethnic minority group of Mường Lay.

In his opening speech, Mr. Hoàng Văn Quyền, Chairman of the Mường Lay Town People’s Committee, emphasized: “Visitors to Mường Lay Town during this occasion will experience the beauty of an urban area with traditional stilt-house neighborhoods of the White Thái people and its distinctive waterfront culture. They can also immerse themselves in the unique culture of local ethnic minority groups of Mường Lay Town, participate in traditional ethnic sports, and enjoy adventurous and extraordinary sports tournaments. These activities aim to preserve and promote the traditional cultural values of ethnic minority communities while boosting local tourism sector.”

To date, Mường Lay Town has successfully hosted 9 Swallowtail Boat Racing Festivals and 2 National Paragliding Club Championships. In 2025, the quality of activities within the festival framework continues to be enhanced, with the introduction of a large-scale jet surfing competition for the first time.
