Inheriting the strengths of both press agencies, the Điện Biên Newspaper, Radio, and Television has focused on innovating content and elevating its standards to adapt and affirm its position as the local flagship media agency in the new development phase.
Implementing the policy of restructuring and streamlining the organizational apparatus, the merger of the province’s two flagship press agencies laid the foundation for the formation of the Điện Biên Newspaper, Radio, and Television under a multimedia press agency model. After the merger, resources were concentrated to effectively leverage the strengths of print, electronic newspapers, radio, and television, while expanding their presence on digital platforms to bring information closer to the public.
After one year of operation, the most distinct change lies in the method of organizing information production. Instead of the separate reporting workflows of each journalism type in the past, professional divisions have been tightly connected under a converged newsroom model. From building dissemination plans and deploying topics to producing and distributing press products, everything is executed in a unified manner, contributing to limiting information duplication, enhancing dissemination efficiency, and utilizing resources effectively.
Đặng Hải Triều, Deputy Director of the Điện Biên Newspaper, Radio, and Television, noted that after one year of operating under the new model, the unit has efficiently capitalized on resource concentration, upgrading management quality and content production organization. The team of journalists has step-by-step met multimedia reporting requirements and pushed forward the production of digital press products, thereby allowing the province’s official information to spread faster, wider, and more effectively to the public.
Following the merger, the Điện Biên Newspaper, Radio, and Television upgraded content quality, expanding the duration and frequency of news programs. The number of television news programs increased from 6 to 9 programs daily, ensuring that information is updated continuously from 6:00 to 24:00. Along with broadcasting on traditional infrastructures, press products are developed in a multi-platform direction, appearing on electronic newspapers, websites, fanpages, YouTube, TikTok, and many other social media platforms, contributing to broadening the scope of public reach.
Furthermore, many new press products and columns have been constructed, contributing to upgrading the quality of information and dissemination work. Seven new columns have created additional forums to convey the Party’s guidelines and resolutions, alongside the province’s socio-economic development policies, to the People. Concurrently, the unit successfully executed 23 live radio and television broadcasts of key political and economic events of the province and the country. These achieved results have affirmed that the production and reporting capacity of the new press agency has better satisfied the requirements of the converged newsroom model in the digital era.
In the digital transformation process, the Điện Biên Newspaper, Radio, and Television built a multi-platform media ecosystem in the digital environment. By May 2026, the Điện Biên Radio and Television Fanpage recorded over 165,000 followers, the Electronic Điện Biên Phủ Newspaper Fanpage exceeded 20,000 followers, the Điện Biên Television YouTube channel reached more than 324,000 subscribers, and the TikTok channel attracted over 30,100 followers with around 335,000 interactions. These figures demonstrate that official information is increasingly asserting its position in the digital environment, expanding its public reach, even in deep, remote, and border areas.
The efficiency of the merged model was clearly manifested in dissemination work for the province’s key political tasks. Regarding the implementation of the two-level local government model, the Điện Biên Newspaper, Radio, and Television formulated a synchronized dissemination plan across all types of journalism. For this content alone, there were 1,250 news items and reports broadcast on radio and television, 2,740 news items and articles published in print, over 1,800 works on the electronic newspaper, alongside thousands of digital media products on social network platforms.
In parallel, organizational apparatus building was deployed synchronously. The Điện Biên Newspaper, Radio, and Television completed the rearrangement of its Party organization, finalized leadership positions for professional divisions, and successfully organized its First Party Congress for the 2025 - 2030 tenure. After the merger, more than 60 cadre turns were sent to participate in training, professional development, and digital transformation classes, building a foundation to upgrade the unit’s operational quality.
After one year of operating under the new model, the achieved results have affirmed the soundness of the policy to merge local flagship press agencies. This serves as a premise for the Điện Biên Newspaper, Radio, and Television to continue innovating, upgrading the quality of information and dissemination, and maximizing its role as the province’s flagship media agency in the digital era. However, the requirement to develop multimedia journalism poses multiple challenges, particularly regarding high-quality human resources.
Currently, the unit still lacks several specific professional positions to meet task requirements. Building a workforce that is sufficient in quantity, solid in expertise, mastering technology, and adapting to the digital media environment will be the key factor to effectively leverage the converged newsroom model, satisfying public information demands and political task requirements in the new phase.
