“Press cadres are also revolutionary soldiers. The pen and the page are their sharp weapons...” Throughout its formation and development, Điện Biên journalism has always accompanied local development. Press agencies and the team of Điện Biên journalists have exerted great efforts, innovated, created, and shown high determination to fulfill their tasks well, making an important contribution to encouraging and motivating cadres, party members, and all strata of the People to successfully achieve the province’s goals in the new era.

Celebrating the 101st anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 - 2026) and looking back at the development journey of the provincial press, the accompanying role in socio-economic development, Party building, and the local political system becomes clearer, alongside the sacred and proud responsibility of the team of Điện Biên journalists.

Blending into the flow of the country’s press, Điện Biên journalism has constantly grown and developed. Currently, the province has two press agencies alongside 16 representative offices and resident reporters from central press organs, totaling nearly 200 people active in the journalism and media sector. This is an important force contributing to the timely conveyance of the Party’s guidelines and the State’s policies and laws to the People, while vividly reflecting robust movements in the province’s socio-economic development.

Điện Biên is entering a new development phase with many important political tasks, where the accompanying role of the press is demonstrated even more sharply. In particular, since July 2025, numerous key political events of the country and the locality have been marked. Within this, the rearrangement of the organizational apparatus and the operation of the two-level local government model is a major policy, impacting the political system and public life deeply.

Staying close to reality, press agencies have built numerous specialized pages, columns, and in-depth article series to disseminate and explain the new features of the organizational model, reflecting the thoughts and aspirations of cadres, party members, and residents. They have promptly spread good experiences and effective practices from the grassroots, as well as difficulties and snags in remote and isolated areas that need untangling. Through each press work, citizens better understand the meaning of the revolution to streamline the apparatus, thereby creating social consensus. Multiple articles have become a bridge between the government and the People, contributing to resolving anxieties and snags during the implementation of major Party and State guidelines.

Recently, the dissemination work for the success of the 14th National Party Congress and the 15th Điện Biên provincial Party Congress has been powerfully deployed by press agencies. Outstanding achievements in socio-economic development, tourism, investment promotion, Party building, and national defense and security, along with the core tasks of the new tenure, have been vividly reflected through news, articles, reportages, discussions, and in-depth seminars, contributing to a vibrant emulation atmosphere and solidifying the trust of cadres, party members, and the People in the Party’s leadership.

Currently, Điện Biên province is deploying multiple key projects of vital significance for local development in the coming phase, such as phase 1 of the Sơn La - Điện Biên - Tây Trang Expressway project, the Điện Biên Phủ Cable Car Complex combined with Cultural and Historical Tourism Project in Mường Phăng commune, and the New Urban, Resort Tourism, and Sports Services Project northwest of Điện Biên Phủ ward. Accompanying local authorities, from transport infrastructure projects and urban development structures to public livelihood projects, reporters are always present at scenes to reflect implementation progress, recording the efforts of party committees and governments at all levels, alongside the thoughts and aspirations of residents regarding site clearance and resettlement. This objective, multi-dimensional information has contributed to generating social consensus, limiting misinformation, and solidifying public trust in the province’s development guidelines.

Beyond accompanying the execution of socio-economic development tasks, the press has clearly demonstrated its social responsibility during difficult times. Every rainy and stormy season, whenever natural disasters strike upland or border communes, the image of reporters overcoming eroded roads and crossing streams to enter the heart of floods for news reporting has become familiar. Field-reported information does not only promptly reflect damage status and rescue and relief work but also spreads beautiful stories about the community’s spirit of solidarity and mutual love, contributing to mobilizing resources to support residents in overcoming hardships.

Staying close to the breath of life and heavily directing the pen toward the grassroots level have also been prominent highlights of Điện Biên journalism recently. This was clearly shown through the 4th Điện Biên provincial Journalism Award (2025).

From 121 participating entries, the Organizing Committee selected and presented awards to 40 outstanding works across various journalism types. Multiple reportages left a deep imprint due to their topicality, discovery value, and widespread impact. The work “The Apparatus-Streamlining Revolution - From Policy to Action” vividly reflected the deployment process of the organizational apparatus rearrangement policy and the building of the two-level local government, clarifying the shift in perceptions and actions of cadres and party members, alongside public consensus. The piece “The Imprint of Điện Biên’s Mettle and Aspiration” demonstrated unanimity and determination, conveying a message of faith in a bright future. The entry “Firmly Protecting the Party’s Ideological Foundation at the Furthest West” recorded the efforts of the party committee, local authority, armed forces, and border residents in safeguarding the Party’s ideological foundation, fighting and refuting erroneous and hostile viewpoints.

Numerous humanistic works contributed to spreading good values in the community. “Mùa A Thi - The leader lighting up faith in Háng Pu Xi,” “The Village Chief from the Heart of Xa Dung Flood,” or “Hồ Chử Goằng - The Bright Torch of the Border” are truthful stories about ordinary yet highly responsible individuals who devote themselves to the community, becoming core figures spreading solidarity, the will to overcome difficulties, and the desire to rise up in life. Behind each work are long trips to the grassroots, days of journalists staying close to villages and localities, assignments under harsh weather conditions, or sleepless nights finalizing works.

Faced with powerful changes from the 4.0 technology revolution and the explosion of digital media, Điện Biên journalism is also undergoing robust transformations. The year 2025 marked a vital milestone when the Điện Biên Phủ Newspaper and the Điện Biên Radio and Television merged into the Điện Biên Newspaper, Radio, and Television. This served as an important premise to build a converged newsroom model and develop multimedia journalism in a modern direction.

Alongside print, radio, and television, various modern press products - such as E-magazine, Longform, Video Story, Infographic, Livestream, and digital contents on social network platforms - have been powerfully deployed by the Điện Biên Newspaper, Radio, and Television, creating new experiences that attract reader tracking, interaction, and sharing. Video products, digital reportages, multimedia features on culture and tourism, talk shows, major political events, or topical issues have been positively received by the public, contributing to broadening the scope of accessing official information, particularly among the youth.

According to Phạm Ngọc Hân, Chairman of the Điện Biên provincial Journalists’ Association: “The press does not only reflect reality but also contributes to building trust, reinforcing social consensus, and awakening local development aspirations. To meet the requirements of the new development phase, each journalist needs to continue promoting the fine qualities of a Vietnamese revolutionary press worker: ‘Bright eyes, clear heart, sharp pen,’ staying close to reality, deep-diving into the grassroots, and promptly reflecting the issues raised by life. Concurrently, they must spread new factors, good practices, examples of good people and good deeds, and positive values in society. In the digital era, press workers must innovate their mindsets, upgrade their technology application capabilities, and firmly maintain professional ethics and political mettle to produce quality, in-depth, and widely influential journalism works.”

Entering a new era of development, Điện Biên is facing multiple great opportunities and fortunes. The work of materializing the province’s development aspirations demands the collaborative effort of the entire political system, the business community, and ethnic groups. In that journey, the team of Điện Biên journalists will continue to serve as the vanguard force on the ideological front, a bridge between the Party’s will and the People’s heart, a forum reflecting the thoughts and aspirations of the People, and a driving force contributing to generating social consensus, powerfully supporting the construction and development of Điện Biên province to successfully achieve its goals and tasks.
