Deputy PM Trần Hồng Hà directs rescue efforts after flash flood in Xa Dung

ĐBP - In the early morning of August 2, Deputy Prime Minister (PM) Trần Hồng Hà, together with a government working delegation, arrived at Háng Pu Xi hamlet, Xa Dung commune, Điện Biên province to inspect and direct rescue and recovery operations following a devastating flash flood.

Accompanying the delegation from Điện Biên province were: Trần Quốc Cường, Secretary of the provincial Party Committee; Trần Tiến Dũng, Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee; and Lê Thành Đô, Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee.

Háng Pu Xi hamlet has 80 residents. The flash flood, which struck in the early hours of August 1, buried 17 households under mud and rocks, with floodwaters sweeping away their homes and belongings. Tragically, two children, aged 14 and 12, were buried and remain missing.

Deputy Prime Minister Trần Hồng Hà inspected the disaster site, met with affected residents, and encouraged them to persevere through immediate hardships while coordinating closely with emergency forces to overcome the disaster’s aftermath. He directed local authorities to urgently access all villages and residential areas, restore communication links to monitor the situation across the commune, and promptly identify people’s needs for medical aid, food, and essential supplies.

For remote, isolated hamlets, he instructed that specialized transport and satellite communication equipment be deployed as needed. The commune must document all losses to implement recovery and aid programs. For inaccessible areas, provincial authorities should report and propose airlift support if necessary.

“We must act swiftly and decisively. No one should be left hungry, isolated, or without information for an extended period. In all situations, the safety of both rescue personnel and flood-affected residents must be ensured,” underlined Deputy Prime Minister Trần Hồng Hà.

During the visit, Deputy Prime Minister Trần Hồng Hà presented essential relief supplies to Háng Pu Xi residents and urged them to stand united in overcoming immediate difficulties while joining forces with rescue teams in disaster recovery efforts.
