Bringing Tết and spring atmosphere to our readers

ĐBP - When wild sunflowers bloom across hills and streams, marking the arrival of winter’s chill, farmers across Mường Thanh fields are busy preparing for a new crop season. At the same time, we at the Điện Biên Phủ Newspaper begin “cooking up” our own special dish - curating inspiring stories to bring the atmosphere of spring to our readers.

During the 60th anniversary celebration of the Điện Biên Phủ Newspaper (May 1, 1964 - 2024), Mr. Trần Quốc Cường, Member of the Party Central Committee and Secretary of the Điện Biên Provincial Party Committee, remarked that over the past 60 years, the Điện Biên Phủ Newspaper has overcome numerous challenges, growing stronger and affirming its role as an essential and effective voice of the provincial Party committees and authorities, earning the trust of officials, Party members, and the public. The newspaper has continuously innovated its contents, offering various specialized pages that translate the Party’s resolutions into reality while meeting the ever-increasing demand for information. Particularly, the Điện Biên Phủ Online Newspaper has been expanding its reach, attracting a large readership. Since early 2024, the newspaper has launched an online version in the English language, contributing significantly to promoting Điện Biên’s land and people to domestic and international audiences.

“The development of the Điện Biên Phủ Newspaper is closely tied to the province’s journey through different historical periods. With great pride and optimism, I believe the newspaper will continue to uphold its proud traditions, further advancing as a leading force in the Party’s ideological and cultural work, worthy of the trust placed in it by the provincial Party committees and authorities, and the multiethnic people of the province,” underlined Mr. Trần Quốc Cường.

As the Điện Biên Phủ Newspaper enters its 61st year in 2025, it continues its long-standing journey alongside the Party committees and authorities, and people of the province. Through countless springs, generations of journalists, editors, and technicians have poured their passion and dedication into producing a captivating Lunar New Year (Tết) edition.

We often joke with each other: “If the peach blossoms have not bloomed, where can we find spring’s colors to sprinkle into our articles?” Of course, every journalist has long been nurturing ideas for this special edition, waiting for the right moment to bring them to life. That is why, when the newspaper’s Editorial Board launches the Tết edition planning in early October 2024, all reporters promptly submit a diverse range of topics for coverage.

Each journalist sees Tết from a different perspective: The transformation of neighborhoods, villages, and towns; significant milestones in various industries and sectors; the joy and excitement of people from all walks of life; and the hopes and expectations for a breakthrough year of comprehensive and sustainable development for the province.

The newspaper’s Secretariat Department carefully studies and drafts the content plan for the Tết edition, providing the Editorial Board with a broad yet detailed picture of Điện Biên’s political, socio-economic, and cultural issues. The newspaper features analyses of how the province has overcome challenges to achieve its socio-economic goals, as well as its aspirations to become a developed locality in the Northern midland and mountainous region - an emerging hub for tourism and services. Additionally, the Tết edition vividly portrays the rich and diverse cultural traditions of the province’s ethnic minority groups and capture the festive atmosphere that permeates every village and town during Tết.

For most people, Tết spirit comes alive when selecting kumquat trees and peach blossoms or strolling through bustling flower markets. But for journalists, Tết arrives early - because the moment we see the Tết edition in print, we know the New Year has begun! Flipping through its pages, readers can immediately feel the essence of spring - the season’s breath woven into every story and image. Holding the Tết edition in our hands, a product born of collective effort, intellect, and dedication, fills us with a unique sense of pride - one that perhaps only journalists truly understand.

Every year, I make it a tradition to bring home the Điện Biên Phủ Newspaper’s Tết edition, placing them in the most prominent spot in my living room. Family members and friends who visit during Tết gather around, flipping through the pages, sharing stories, and capturing cherished moments together.

The eternal vitality of spring - both in the land and in people’s hearts - will continue to radiate warmth through every page of our newspaper’s Tết edition. Despite the challenges and hardships, we, the journalists, always find joy in our work, driven by the mission of bringing a spring full of aspirations to readers near and far.
