Maintaining peace in villages

In August 2024, sudden mountain rains made the task of combating drug-related crimes in the province even more difficult. However, thanks to their resilience, steel determination, and persistent engagement in local communities, the police successfully brought criminals to justice.

Before the arrests, a group of suspects in Núa Ngam was under investigation due to their suspicious behaviors: frequently absent from the area, associating with unknown individuals, and using drugs. Despite not having stable jobs, these individuals had a lot of money to spend. With this information, the police initiated case 624C, led by the provincial Police Department’s Drug Crime Investigation Division.

On August 13, 2024, at 3:15a.m., officers arrested three suspects, Sùng A Chống, Sùng A Dế, and Sùng A Chua, who were transporting drugs for distribution. They seized 10 heroin bricks, 60,000 methamphetamine tablets, and other related evidence.

In the same period, the police successfully dismantled three major drug cases, arresting six individuals and seizing 19 heroin bricks and 84,000 methamphetamine tablets.

The most recent success occurred on June 12, 2025, in U Đôm Xay province, Laos, where Điện Biên Police worked together to capture 12 suspects and seized about 2 tons of various drugs, including 1.87 tons of synthetic drugs and 124kg of ketamine.

Since 2010, the police have successfully resolved nearly 11,000 cases, arrested 12,780 suspects, and seized over 1,100kg of heroin, nearly 200kg of opium, and more than 5.5 million methamphetamine pills.

Building a strong relationship with people

In every village across the vast northwest region, no matter the difficulties or dangers, the Điện Biên police personnel are always there as a reliable support to maintain peace and security. Their close relationship with the people is demonstrated through numerous “Police Listening to the People” meetings held over the years. These meetings have allowed for over 3,500 models and initiatives in the “All People Protect the National Security” movement, engaging a large number of citizens.

A notable example is the “Anti-Drug Club” in Mường Phăng commune, which was launched in May 2025. This initiative has become a source of support for those who have made mistakes in the past, helping them regain trust and rebuild their lives.

Lieutenant Colonel Lò Văn Quyền, head of the Mường Phăng commune Police, explained: “We built this club as an open model, with flexible activities held monthly or as needed. The goal is to prevent from the grassroots level, and the people understand and support each other.”

Continuing the glorious tradition

From the smoke of war to today’s peaceful times, generations of Điện Biên police officers have always embodied the principle of “Serving the country and the people,” through their sacrifices and heroic actions.

On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Vietnam People’s Police Force and the 20th anniversary of the National Security Protection Day, Secretary of the provincial Party Committee Trần Quốc Cường emphasized that the police have continuously demonstrated political courage, facing all challenges, courageously fighting, and making significant contributions to the country’s liberation and reunification. These achievements have enhanced the traditions of Điện Biên Phủ and the province’s revolutionary legacy.

Following the teachings of President Hồ Chí Minh and guided by the spirit of the revolution, Secretary Trần Quốc Cường expressed confidence that the Điện Biên police force will overcome difficulties, continue to excel in ensuring security and public order, and contribute to the region’s economic and social development.

Today, Điện Biên is undergoing significant transformation. From the urban areas to the remote villages, the footprints of the police officers are everywhere, acting as a solid shield, ensuring peace and security for the people. Their strength fuels the confidence needed to continue the proud tradition of the Điện Biên police, contributing to the province’s prosperity and civilized growth, worthy of its position as a heroic frontier land.
