Well preparing for “Compassionate Tết” program

ĐBP - The “Compassionate Tết” program for the 2026 Lunar New Year (Tết) – the Year of the Horse is a humanitarian activity of deep significance, aiming to care for and support poor households and individuals in difficult circumstances in Điện Biên province, helping them have the conditions to enjoy spring and welcome Tết.

Thoughtfully preparing for the program, the provincial Red Cross Society is actively mobilizing resources and deploying specific activities to provide timely support to beneficiaries, ensuring everyone has a cozy Tết.

At the end of the year, caring for Tết for poor and near-poor households, households in difficult circumstances, people with disabilities, the lonely elderly, orphans, and households affected by natural disasters is always a focus of implementation for the provincial Red Cross Society at all levels. This Tết season, the provincial Red Cross Society continues to deploy the “Compassionate Tết” program with many practical activities.

According to the plan, Association levels in the area will strive to support over 20,000 Tết gifts, worth at least VND 300,000 - 500,000/gift (including cash and in-kind items) to present to poor households and individuals in especially difficult circumstances. The highlight this year is organizing at least one provincial-level “Compassionate Tết” program with the activity of presenting 300 gifts, each worth a minimum of VND 500,000. At the commune level, a “Compassionate Tết” Week will be organized simultaneously from February 2 - 9, 2026 (December 15 - 22 of the lunar calendar) with activities such as giving gifts, offering Tết wishes, holding Compassionate Tết markets, playing folk games, drawing Tết paintings, taking photos, wrapping cakes... Thereby, creating a joyful, warm, and sharing atmosphere, spreading the compassionate spirit deeply and widely in the community.

Đặng Xuân Vịnh, Chairman of the provincial Red Cross Society, shared that this year’s “Compassionate Tết” program takes place from January 15 to February 10, 2026. The Society has advised the provincial People’s Committee to direct the organization of the program locally; promoting dissemination about the purpose and meaning of “Compassionate Tết.” Advising local authorities, coordinating with boards, departments, and sectors to organize and call on businesses, benefactors, and the community to contribute resources and manpower to organize the provincial-level “Compassionate Tết” program. The Society has sent open letters calling on agencies, units, businesses, organizations, individuals, and benefactors inside and outside the province to support the program with funds and in-kind contributions. At the same time, coordinating with units in reviewing and compiling lists of beneficiaries, especially in organizing Tết gift-giving activities to avoid duplication in resource mobilization and supported subjects.

The provincial Red Cross Society also proactively guides, urges, and inspects Red Cross societies of communes and wards; and affiliated branches in implementing the program; assigning specific targets to units; and guiding the organization of health care activities and humanitarian medical examinations for the poor during Tết.

Implementing the “Compassionate Tết” program, from the sponsorship of Kind Heart Foundation - Vingroup, from January 28 - 30, the provincial Red Cross Society will coordinate with the sponsor to present 5,900 gifts, with a total value of VND 3.54 billion to poor and near-poor households, and families in difficult circumstances in 21 communes in the provincial area. Each gift consists of VND 500,000 in cash and a box of cakes. In addition, the Society has mobilized a number of units and benefactors to donate 150 pairs of pants, 600 warm uniform jackets for students, and 50 boxes of cakes to give to poor households and students at the end of the year.

With the spirit of “mutual affection, mutual love,” the “Compassionate Tết” program will receive many support resources to organize practical activities to care for poor households and individuals in difficult circumstances in the upcoming Tết. Helping the vulnerable in society have conditions to enjoy spring and welcome the nation’s traditional Tết in a warm and peaceful atmosphere.
