Điện Biên trains officials on solid waste classification at the source

ĐBP – The Điện Biên Provincial Department of Natural Resources and Environment, in collaboration with the Department of Environmental Pollution Control under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, held a training workshop on Saturday focused on the management of household solid waste, plastic waste, and the classification of household solid waste.

The training session was attended by 250 delegates, including leaders, officers, and specialists in natural resources and environment from various departments, agencies, and units in the province.

The workshop aimed to enhance the capacity of officials to effectively implement household solid waste classification at the source, which will be uniformly applied across the province starting December 31, 2024.

Participants were trained to improve their advisory and operational skills for successful implementation.

Over the two-day event between December 21–22, delegates were introduced to key topics, including management of household solid waste; processes for classification, collection, transportation, and treatment of household solid waste.

Additionally, the workshop addressed challenges and obstacles in managing household solid waste of units in the province.

To ensure the efficient implementation of waste classification at the source, the training provided comprehensive guidance on relevant policies and regulations. This knowledge equips officials to effectively advise and manage household solid waste within the scope of their roles and responsibilities.

The training serves as a crucial foundation for promoting programmes on waste collection, treatment, and classification at the source. These efforts target agencies, organisations, households, individuals, businesses, and communities throughout the province.

During the workshop, participants also discussed difficulties, particularly regarding resources and legal issues related to managing and classifying waste at the source, as well as the transportation and treatment of household solid waste.

Delegates proposed practical solutions for local implementation to ensure compliance with the Environmental Protection Law in the coming period.
