Điện Biên celebrates 70th anniversary of Vietnamese Doctors’ Day

ĐBP - On the afternoon of February 27, the Điện Biên Province’s Department of Health solemnly held a ceremony to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Vietnamese Doctors’ Day (February 27, 1955 - 2025).

Attending the event were Mr. Trần Quốc Cường, Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the provincial Party Committee; Mr. Lê Thành Đô, Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee; Mr. Lò Văn Phương, Member of the Standing Board of the provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the provincial People’s Council; along with members of the Standing Board of the provincial Party Committee, the Standing Board of the provincial People’s Council, leaders of the provincial People’s Committee, representatives of departments, agencies, mass organizations, and socio-political organizations of the province; leaders and former leaders of the provincial Department of Health; distinguished doctors honored with titles of People’s Doctor and Meritorious Doctor; and a large number of officials and employees from the local health sector.

Reflecting on the history of the health sector, Mr. Phạm Giang Nam, Director of the provincial Department of Health, emphasized that seventy years ago, President Hồ Chí Minh sent a letter to the health sector with profound teachings, stating, “A good doctor must be like a kind mother.” Over the past 70 years, his teaching has served as the guiding principle for generations of doctors to study, train, strive, develop, dedicate, and contribute to the cause of public healthcare, national defense, and the country’s development.

Inheriting and promoting the 70-year tradition of building and development, the Điện Biên Province’s health sector has increasingly advanced comprehensively and modernly, achieving significant accomplishments: Successfully completing or exceeding 8 out of 14 targets set by the 14th provincial Party Congress Resolution; health indicators have been markedly improved; the health system has been streamlined, strengthened, and operates efficiently from the provincial level down to the grassroots level.

The healthcare network has expanded widely, with 22 units across the province. Every commune, ward, or township has a medical clinic with at least one doctor. Additionally, 79.64% of villages and hamlets meet the standards and conditions to have village health workers. The quality of the population has improved in many aspects, with an expanded immunization rate exceeding 90% and health insurance coverage reaching 95.58%. Many advanced and specialized medical techniques have been applied in diagnosis and treatment. The attitudes and professionalism of healthcare providers have been reformed. Digital transformation in healthcare has also been actively implemented.

On this occasion, many collectives and individuals in the provincial health sector received prestigious awards. Six individuals were awarded the title of Meritorious Doctor; one collective and 18 individuals received Certificates of Merit from the Prime Minister; six collectives received Certificates of Merit from the Ministry of Health, while three collectives and five individuals received Certificates of Merit from the provincial People’s Committee for their outstanding contributions to the “70 years of following Uncle Hồ’s teachings in the health sector” movement, in celebration of the 70th anniversary of President Hồ Chí Minh’s letter to the health sector.

Additionally, 15 individuals were awarded the “For People’s Health” Insignia by the Ministry of Health.
