Vietnamese-French partnership illuminates Điện Biên's future

ĐBP — French military representatives will sign a letter of trust with their Vietnamese counterparts, covering a range of topics directly related to Điện Biên Province, French Secretary of State for Veterans and Memory Patricia Miralles said at a meeting with provincial leaders on May 5.

The French official emphasised Điện Biên Phủ's significance as a pivotal juncture uniting the two nations, hinting at collaborative endeavours like constructing historical documents and excavating the remains of French soldiers.

Both sides will cooperate to develop and implement joint projects to soothe the pain of the past, promote the development of Điện Biên, and enhance the friendship between the two countries.

Notably, this includes inaugurating and operating the lighting system for the Mường Thanh bridge, serving as a symbolic beacon illuminating and reinforcing the bond between the two nations.

Excited to visit Điện Biên Province for the 70th anniversary of the Điện Biên Phủ Victory, Miralles sees it as an opportunity to honor the soldiers' bravery.

She also praised the province for its effective historical education, helping future generations not to forget history but also maintaining a very fair and forgiving perspective.

Miralles expressed hope that the province will maintain its emphasis on historical exploration with trilingual signage and efficiently implement ongoing projects and initiatives spearheaded by the French government and organisations in Điện Biên. Notable among these are the Nậm Rốm riverbank project, urban renewal efforts, and programmes aimed at enhancing education and livelihoods.

At the meeting, Secretary of the provincial Party Committee Trần Quốc Cường highlighted the enduring friendship between France and Việt Nam, including Điện Biên.

He stressed joint efforts to promote peace amid war's legacy and sought increased French support, aiming to introduce provincial products like coffee, macadamia nuts, and rice in the French market soon.
