Deputy Chairman of the People's Committee Phạm Đức Toàn made these remarks while receiving a delegation from the Lao Embassy to Việt Nam during their visit to the province on Thursday.

During the reception for the delegation led by Lao Ambassador to Việt Nam Khamphao Ernthavanh, Deputy Chairman Toàn briefed them on the outstanding achievements made by Điện Biên in socio-economic development and ensuring security and national defense.

The province successfully organized a cultural and sports exchange program between students from Điện Biên Province and six northern provinces of Laos.

The relationships and cooperation between Điện Biên Province and the northern provinces of Laos are consistently nurtured and preserved, he said.

Social welfare policies are fully implemented, including the province's significant progress in eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses for poor households.

Toàn expressed hope that Laos will soon upgrade the transportation routes from the Tây Trang border gate to Oudomxay and Bokeo provinces, as well as the route from the Huổi Puốc - Na Son border gate to Luang Prabang Province.

For her part, Ambassador Khamphao sincerely thanked the leadership of Điện Biên Province for the warm welcome.

This is the first time personally for the Ambassador and the working delegation to visit and work in Điện Biên.

The meeting has allowed the ambassador and the delegation to better understand the achievements and plans of Điện Biên in economic and social development, especially the province's relationships and cooperation with the northern provinces of Laos.

Regarding the suggestions from Điện Biên Province, the ambassador said she will consider and convey them to the Government and State of Laos.

On the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2024, the ambassador wished the leaders and people of all ethnic groups in Điện Biên Province a warm, joyful, and happy new year.
