Điện Biên leader receives the US Ambassador to Việt Nam

ĐBP – Secretary of the Điện Biên Provincial Party Committee Trần Quốc Cường met with the US Ambassador to Việt Nam Marc E. Knapper on Sunday (May 5) at the headquarters of the Provincial Party Committee in Điện Biên Phủ City.

Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Cường expressed joy and excitement at welcoming Ambassador Marc E. Knapper to visit Điện Biên Province on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Điện Biên Phủ Victory.

He briefed the Ambassador on the natural conditions, socio-economic development situation, as well as the potential and strengths in agriculture, tourism, and energy sectors of the province.

Cường also outlined the potential of renewable energy, including wind and solar power. He emphasised that many areas in the province are facing water scarcity, making investment in irrigation projects and reservoirs to supply water for local people a top priority.

Cường mentioned the province's plan to establish Điện Biên Phủ University and expressed hope that the US Ambassador would support connections to ensure students receive quality English language training.

Regarding religious activities in the province, Cường asked for support from the US Ambassador to help raise awareness of legitimate religious activities recognised by law.

Furthermore, Cường expressed the province's desire to welcome more US visitors to support resources for improving the material and spiritual life of the people.

Ambassador Marc E. Knapper, in turn, appreciated the warm reception and hospitality of the provincial leader and expressed joy at visiting Điện Biên at a significant time as the province prepares for the 70th anniversary of the Điện Biên Phủ Victory.

The Ambassador highly valued the information and opinions exchanged by the Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and assured support for the province, especially in the fields of transnational crime prevention, religion, education, health, and agriculture.
