Not afraid of difficulties or hardships
Sergeant Giàng A Thắng, an officer at Hospital 7/5 under the Điện Biên provincial Police, was one of the 20 exemplary faces to receive the “Beautiful Living Youth” Award in 2025. This is a noble award from the Vietnam Youth Federation to honor outstanding youth who perform noble actions and gestures of a humanistic nature, showing the spirit of solidarity, mutual affection, and sharing difficulties with the community and society.
Growing up in difficult circumstances in Mường Tùng commune, at the age of 20, Giàng A Thắng discovered he had end-stage chronic kidney failure, requiring regular dialysis three times a week, forcing him at times to temporarily set aside his work for treatment.
Overcoming the shock of the illness, Giàng A Thắng chose to face it with optimism and a sense of responsibility toward life. “There were times when I thought I was a burden to my family, but then I told myself that as long as I still have strength, I must live usefully,” confided Giàng A Thắng.
From that mindset, he and other patients at the “dialysis village” in the former Noong Bua ward (now Mường Thanh ward) who were undergoing treatment at the provincial General Hospital maintained the “bundles of loving chopsticks” initiative to raise funds to support one another. Initially, only a few people participated, but up to now, 15 patients have joined the chopstick-whittling work, with each person earning an additional income of VND 500,000 to over VND 1 million per month to cover medical and living expenses.
Not only creating a small livelihood, these bundles of chopsticks also contribute to preserving faith and determination for less fortunate fates. The willpower to rise above adversity along with the silent spirit of sharing of Giàng A Thắng has become a beautiful bright spot, spreading the aspiration to contribute among the youth of the Điện Biên Police.
Born in 1996, Nguyễn Mỹ Linh is an exemplary face of the daring-to-think and daring-to-do young generation of Điện Biên. Graduating from Vietnam Academy of Agriculture, instead of staying in the urban area with many opportunities, she decided to return to the highland district of Tủa Chùa to bond with the ancient Shan tuyết tea trees - a signature local specialty product.
After initial days full of difficulties, Nguyễn Mỹ Linh persistently developed a raw material area, partnering with local people to purchase products and guide techniques, step-by-step improving the quality of tea. With a methodical approach, preserving the original value of ancient tea while being creative in branding, the company’s Shan tuyết tea products, including Hồng Trà, Diệp Thanh Trà, and Phổ Nhĩ Trà, have gradually asserted their position in the domestic market, while also being exported to China, the United States, and Australia.
With those contributions, Nguyễn Mỹ Linh was the sole representative of Điện Biên to receive the Lương Định Của Award in 2024 - a noble reward dedicated to outstanding rural youth nationwide. In 2025, she continued to be honored at the 8th National Congress of Advanced Youth Following Uncle Ho’s Teachings and the 6th provincial Patriotic Emulation Congress (2025 - 2030).
Spreading energy of youths for the community
Dozens of kilometers of rural traffic roads concrete-paved, hundreds of houses repaired or newly built, thousands of gifts presented to policy-beneficiary families and disadvantaged citizens, and numerous students in remote and isolated areas empowered to go to school are significant contributions implemented by the youth union force in the province over recent years.
Moreover, over the past few years, successive natural disasters, storms, and floods have caused severe losses to the lives of Điện Biên residents. In August 2025, many villages in Na Son, Xa Dung, and Phình Giàng communes were left in shambles, with many places isolated and the familiar rhythm of life suddenly turned upside down. Amidst countless hardships, the province’s youth union force quickly arrived on the scene, ready to head to areas in need of support to coordinate with functional forces in deploying rescue and salvage operations.
Despite the harsh weather, the young people persistently stayed behind to assist in relocation, supply essential provisions, and join hands to stabilize people’s lives, serving as a solid spiritual anchor during the most critical moments of adversity. Once the rains and floods passed, they continued to work alongside local party committees, authorities, and residents to clean up, repair houses, and restore daily routines.
“In all circumstances, the youth union force of the Provincial Police always promotes the shock spirit, ready to accept and complete tasks,” shared Captain Lò Văn Long, Head of the Youth Union under the provincial Police. “Whether in professional work or participating in community activities, each member strives to contribute through specific and practical deeds, helping to spread a beautiful image of public security officers in the hearts of the people.”
Party Congresses at all levels for the 2025 - 2030 tenure and the election of deputies to the National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026 - 2031 term across the province concluded with great success. Contributing to that outcome was the vital role of the youth union force, who, with a high sense of responsibility, actively participated in dissemination work, organizational support, and ensuring political security as well as social order and safety.
Secretary of the provincial Youth Union Mùa Chiến Thắng affirmed: “Điện Biên’s youth today always promote their shock and creative roles, ready to take on new and difficult tasks. Each youth union member is striving to train and contribute through concrete actions, helping to build an increasingly developed homeland.”
