Vietnamese border guards in Điện Biên conduct joint border patrol with Lao counterparts

ĐBP – On December 11, Thanh Luông Border Post, under the Border Guard Command of Điện Biên Province (Việt Nam), coordinated with Border Company 116, the Military Command of Phongsaly Province (Laos), to conduct a bilateral patrol.

The two sides carried out the patrol operation, which was led by Captain Lê Tiến Quang, Deputy Commander of Thanh Luông Border Post, and Major Khamsone In Somman, Commander of Border Company 116, Phongsaly Military Command.

The two sides coordinated the patrol to inspect the border system and border markers on the common border section from border marker No.103 to No.104.

During the patrol, the two sides carried out the steps and contents in accordance with the regulations on foreign affairs, ensuring compliance with the plan agreed upon by both sides. The two sides also inspected each section of the border and the geology in the border marker area, ensuring that the status quo is in accordance with the Protocol on the Việt Nam - Laos borderline and national border markers, and that the border marker areas are standing at no risk of landslides or encroachment.

In addition, the two sides coordinated to propagate, educate and disseminate laws, raise awareness for the people of the two countries to comply with regulations on border management and protection, especially acts like cross-border livestock and poultry, preventing all kinds of crimes, illegal entry and exit, free migration, etc.

The two sides also agreed to continue to strengthen bilateral and unilateral patrols in the border marker area, to prevent illegal entry and exit, hunting of wild animals and fight against crimes.

Within the framework of the patrol, Thanh Lương Border Guard Station presented Border Guard Company 116, Military Command of Phongsaly (Laos) with a computer set worth VNĐ10 million (nearly US$400).

The two sides performed the ceremony of inspecting the national border markers.

This is a bilateral patrol activity done in line with the Memorandum of Understanding of the 16th meeting between the Border Guard Commands of Điện Biên and Sơn La provinces (Việt Nam) and the Military Command of Phongsaly Province (Laos) signed on November 26, 2024.
