Trade unions in the era of integration

ĐBP - In response to the evolving demands of employment, income, and working conditions, trade union organizations continue to stand alongside workers to protect their legitimate rights and interests.

These organizations are playing a vital role in enhancing human resource quality, fostering technical innovations, and cultivating a stable and progressive labor environment within agencies, units, and enterprises.

With the active support and encouragement of the trade union, Trần Đức Học, a lecturer at the Faculty of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Điện Biên College, successfully developed the “Electrical wiring layout of a refrigerator” model. This highly applicable initiative demonstrates the effective partnership between union organizations and professional activities. In a vocational training environment that requires a tight link between theory and practice, having visual models for teaching significantly improves educational quality and sparks a spirit of scientific research among faculty members.

According to Trần Đức Học, the union has provided immense support annually, even creating a platform for members to participate in national competitions in Hanoi, where his model received prestigious commendations. Currently, the Điện Biên College Trade Union, with nearly 220 members, continues to accompany workers in professional activities that align with modern integration trends, leading to the effective application of various initiatives in electronics and refrigeration.

The “Electrical wiring layout of a refrigerator” model developed by Trần Đức Học is being utilized for teaching at Điện Biên College.

In the corporate sector, the role of the trade union is increasingly affirmed as workers face mounting pressure regarding productivity, quality, and fierce competition. At Petrolimex Điện Biên, the union has become a spiritual anchor for employees navigating the challenges of digital transformation and market fluctuations. Beyond caring for the material and spiritual lives of nearly 170 employees, the union works with the enterprise to improve human resource quality and promote a safe, civilized, and modern working environment.

In 2025, despite numerous difficulties, Petrolimex Điện Biên ensured its supply sources and maintained its market share, with fuel sales reaching nearly 83,000m3. Phạm Ngọc Thạch, Deputy Director of Petrolimex Điện Biên, emphasized that the union always appoints representatives to participate in periodic dialogues and annual worker conferences. These sessions allow for the negotiation of the most beneficial terms for employees, ensuring proper working and rest hours, hazardous work allowances, occupational safety measures, life insurance, and other welfare benefits. In the context of integration, these dialogues contribute to harmonious and stable labor relations, forming a foundation for the sustainable development of the enterprise.

The commitment to worker welfare has been implemented extensively, highlighting the union’s role in ensuring social security. Since 2024, more than 40,000 members and workers have received support during the Lunar New Year, with total funding exceeding VND 20 billion. This includes over 10,000 gift sets valued at more than VND 5 billion. Furthermore, union levels have coordinated to build nearly 30 “Union Shelters” worth approximately VND 1.5 billion. These figures reflect the practical concern of the organization for the lives of its members.

To improve operational efficiency, the province has implemented a synchronized streamlining of the organizational apparatus. Currently, the province maintains 72 grassroots-level trade unions with 7,131 members. This restructuring aims to enhance the quality of activities, ensuring that every grassroots union is a reliable support for workers. Alongside this arrangement is the continuous improvement of human resource quality within the union system.

To date, 100% of superior unions and a high percentage of grassroots-level trade unions in both the administrative and non-state business sectors have been rated as strong. This serves as a critical foundation for trade unions to continue asserting their role in the era of integration, allowing workers to feel secure in their contributions to the overall development of the province.
