On the morning of June 2, 2025, the campus of the provincial General Hospital felt unusually warm. From early morning, hundreds of children with disabilities and their parents were present, their eyes filled with a mix of nervousness and hope as they participated in a free surgery program organized by the Children’s Support Fund in coordination with functional agencies.
Lường Văn Thoan, from Mường Ảng commune, the parent of Lường Văn P., shared: “My child has a congenital cleft palate, which makes eating and speaking very difficult. Seeing my child receive dedicated care and surgery from the doctors, I am very happy.”
When the surgery door opened, sounds of happy laughter and the tight hugs of parents dispelled all worries and fatigue. That road to recovery comes from the hands of doctors and the hearts of the community, from those who are, day by day, instilling faith and helping children with disabilities step firmly on the path ahead.
Dr. Trần Đức Nghĩa, Deputy Director of the provincial General Hospital, stated: “The program of free screening and surgery for children with disabilities has become an annual activity, bringing the opportunity to heal injuries for young children. Successful surgeries will open the door for them to go to school, learn, and develop equally with their peers, thereby nurturing a brighter future.”
The entire province currently has about 5,500 children with disabilities, with various forms such as congenital defects, and motor, visual, auditory, and intellectual impairments, as well as disabilities from accidents. From 2019 to now, the program has screened over 1,300 children with disabilities across the province. Many of them have been successfully operated on, supported with rehabilitation tools, and given consultations for home treatment.
The free surgery program for children with disabilities is just one part of a chain of society-wide efforts to share and lift up these less fortunate lives. This joint effort has spread a humanistic spirit, awakening compassion, community responsibility, and creating bridges to help people with disabilities and orphans have more opportunities to integrate.
Promoting its role as a bridge between organizations, individuals, and benefactors and the vulnerable, the provincial Association for the Support of Persons with Disabilities and Orphans has, over the years, regularly connected and called for the companionship and joint effort of all of society. The Association proactively coordinates with charity groups and benefactors inside and outside the province to organize many meaningful programs, such as: donating wheelchairs, bicycles, computers, refrigerators, school supplies, livestock for livelihoods, work tools, necessities, and long-term scholarships.
From these shared gifts, many children have gained the opportunity to go to school, many people with disabilities have received mobility support, and struggling households have found the means to stabilize their lives and gradually rise out of poverty. In 2024 and the first 6 months of 2025 alone, the Association mobilized over VND 7 billion. This included support from major donors such as the Sao Thái Dương Hà Nội JSC, the Vietnam Association for the Support of Persons with Disabilities and Orphans, and various charity delegations from other provinces and cities.
Phạm Thị Vịnh, Chairwoman of the provincial Association for the Support of Persons with Disabilities and Orphans, said that the work of mobilizing and connecting resources is always maintained by the Association in a regular, transparent, and effective manner. Each wheelchair, each gift, each scholarship connected and given is a message of love and motivation for people with disabilities and orphans to rise up and live better, more confident lives.
Not stopping at material support, in recent years, the Association has also focused on communication to raise social awareness about the rights, obligations, and roles of people with disabilities. From 2024 to the present, the Association has coordinated with press agencies to produce hundreds of news items, articles, and reports reflecting shining examples of overcoming adversity, praising the efforts of people with disabilities in learning, working, and starting businesses. These communication programs have spread a spirit of benevolence, helping to encourage agencies, businesses, and organizations to continue accompanying the Association in its humanitarian activities.
With the motto “Giving opportunities - Sowing belief,” the Association, in its bridging role, has been gradually awakening the will to live in each difficult circumstance. From humanitarian surgery programs, scholarships of love, and livelihood support, to communication activities to raise social awareness, all these efforts create a combined strength. They help people with disabilities gain more faith and motivation to rise up and affirm themselves in life.
