Journey of compassion for community

ĐBP - Throughout the past 80 years, the Vietnam Red Cross movement has spread the spirit of compassion and sharing. In Điện Biên, that journey is carried forward through numerous practical activities dedicated to the poor, vulnerable, and citizens in deep, remote areas.

From building charity houses, supporting livelihoods, providing medical care, and voluntary blood donations to emergency relief, every single action contributes to spreading love and the spirit of mutual support.

The 2026 Humanitarian Month, themed “80 years - A journey of compassion for the community,” concluded with many meaningful marks. The entire province successfully mobilized approximately VND 11.367 billion, showcasing the immense power of solidarity and the spirit of sharing among agencies, units, businesses, volunteer groups, and benefactors. This resource has significantly contributed to supporting thousands of turns of poor people, disabled individuals, disadvantaged children, and households in deep and remote areas through targeted gift-giving programs, academic scholarships, sustainable livelihoods, housing constructions, and comprehensive healthcare.

One of the prominent highlights of this year’s Humanitarian Month is the provision of sustainable livelihood support for poor and near-poor households. The provincial Red Cross Society mobilized resources to support 35 households across Mường Phăng and Mường Ảng communes, as well as Mường Lay ward, with a total value of VND 200 million. This program aims to equip residents with extra production tools, step by step stabilizing their lives and establishing a solid foundation to escape poverty sustainably.

Many activities during Humanitarian Month 2026 were effectively executed by Red Cross societies at all levels.

For many disadvantaged families, the ultimate joy is simply living under a solid, secure roof. During Humanitarian Month, two Red Cross houses were constructed in Ten village, Phình Giàng commune, with a total budget of VND 340 million. These new houses do not only provide residents with stable shelter but also serve as a beautiful testament to the community’s care directed toward the poor.

Love also manifests through structural projects dedicated to highland children. The boarding kitchen at Nậm Ngám B Kindergarten Sub-school in Pu Nhi commune was completed with a cost of VND 238 million, drastically improving daily living conditions for the students. For children in deep and remote areas, a fully nutritious meal does not only offer the physical strength needed for schooling but also unlocks opportunities for comprehensive development in their future.

In the realm of humanitarian endeavors, it is impossible to overlook the voluntary blood donation movement. During the 2026 Humanitarian Month, the province organized five blood donation drives, drawing nearly 2,000 registered participants and successfully receiving 1,562 blood units. Every single drop of blood given represents a returned chance at life, beautifully connecting compassionate hearts through noble civic gestures.

The far-reaching ripple effect of this humanitarian movement is further magnified by the dedicated companionship of numerous agencies, units, and businesses. Among them, the provincial Police force and local police units deployed an array of social security activities with a total budget exceeding VND 6.2 billion.

Concurrently, many enterprises left an indelible mark through practical community contributions. Modern medical equipment was presented to the provincial health sector with a total value of billions of VND, upgrading the quality of local medical examinations and treatment. A standout structural achievement was the completion of the Huổi Lếch Ethnic Boarding Primary School in Mường Toong commune, valued at VND 5 billion.

In tandem with major institutions, volunteer clubs, charity groups, and benefactors from both inside and outside the province actively brought love to highland compatriots. Hundreds of scholarships and thousands of gift portions containing warm clothes, school supplies, and daily necessities were handed directly to students and disadvantaged residents.

The provincial Red Cross Society coordinates with charity units to present gifts to residents of Pa Thơm village, Thanh Yên commune.

Typically, in Pa Thơm village, Thanh Yên commune, the provincial Red Cross Society coordinated with charity units to present 20 gift portions to poor and disadvantaged students, with each portion valued at VND 1.3 million. Concurrently, 20 households facing difficult circumstances across the commune received practical gifts worth VND 1 million per portion.

Bùi Quang Phục, Vice Chairman of the provincial Red Cross Society, shared his perspective on the campaign’s success: “The 2026 Humanitarian Month did not only achieve positive results in resource mobilization but also contributed to widely spreading the compassionate spirit within the community. Through practical and meaningful activities, many disadvantaged situations received timely attention and support, thereby awakening social responsibility and mutual affection among agencies, units, businesses, and citizens. Every structure built, every gift package handed over, every unit of blood donated, or every livelihood model supported carries a profound message of human love and sharing.”

The exceptional results achieved in the 2026 Humanitarian Month are a direct continuation of a sharing journey sustained resiliently over many years. In 2025, echelons, sectors, socio-political organizations, and Red Cross societies at all levels effectively deployed numerous humanitarian programs. Driven by the joint efforts of the entire political system and society, the total value of humanitarian activities in 2025 reached nearly VND 46.84 billion, supporting more than 63,200 turns of people in difficult circumstances. These vital resources reached poor households, families affected by natural disasters, and vulnerable individuals in a timely manner, securing local social security and stabilizing lives.

In reality, many poor and near-poor households in Điện Biên province still heavily require support in livelihoods, housing, education, and healthcare, while state resources remain inherently limited. Therefore, humanitarian work must continue to receive the joint hands of all echelons, sectors, the business community, and kind-hearted benefactors.

“80 years - A journey of compassion for the community” is a legacy of noble gestures nurtured across multiple generations. On the heroic land of Điện Biên, that journey continues to be extended through practical deeds, with the joint hands of the entire community toward the ultimate goal of leaving no one behind.
