Youth union members and young people across the province have demonstrated a pioneering and volunteer spirit, alongside a sense of responsibility in preserving and promoting historical and cultural values, thereby contributing to the socio-economic development of the heroic land of Điện Biên Phủ.
In February 2024, the Standing Board of the provincial Youth Union launched a call for various levels of the Union, Association, and Vanguard Children’s Organization to join hands in contributing funds for the “Bài ca chiến thắng” (Song of Victory) bas-relief placed at the Điện Biên Phủ Victory Museum. After five months of implementation involving members from 16 subordinate units, the project was completed with a total cost of VND 321 million.
Standing 2.7 meters high and 3.7 meters wide, the bas-relief vividly recreates the image of the victorious army and the ethnic people of the Northwest in joyful celebration as they welcomed back Uncle Hồ’s soldiers. This stands as one of the exemplary projects carrying the distinct mark of Điện Biên youths, evoking national pride and expressing the deep gratitude of the younger generation toward the heroes who secured the historic victory. Since its inauguration, the project has become a highlight attracting many residents as well as domestic and international tourists.
Phạm Thị Thủy, a tourist from Thái Nguyên province, shared that she was truly moved when directly admiring the bas-relief. She noted that the vivid imagery successfully recalled the heroic atmosphere of the Điện Biên Phủ victory, and knowing it was built through the contributions of Điện Biên youths made her feel even more clearly the sense of responsibility and gratitude the current generation holds for the nation’s history.
During the 2025 Youth Month, the youth of Nà Tấu commune implemented a meaningful project by directly installing solar-powered street lights. To this day, the lighting system continues to operate stably, bringing light to inter-village and inter-commune roads while contributing to security and order. Speaking on this volunteer spirit, Giàng A Chụa, Deputy Secretary of the Mường Phăng commune Youth Union, emphasized that young members are always ready to contribute their youthful energy to practical community projects, believing that their solidarity will continue to bring positive value to local residents despite difficult conditions.
The movement for youth volunteers to join hands in building new rural areas has also been widely deployed as a highlight of regional youth activities. All levels of the Youth Union organized “Volunteer Peak Days for New Rural Development” with tasks such as constructing rural roads, community houses, and bridges, as well as supporting poor households with sanitation and clean water facilities. These projects, including “Lighting Up the countryside” initiatives, have created favorable conditions for the lives of residents. Lò Thị Xôm, a resident of Tuần Giáo commune, expressed her excitement, noting that the new street lights have made traveling much more convenient and safer for children attending evening classes and adults returning home from work.
Since 2022, the province’s youth have completed nearly 750 projects and tasks with the participation of approximately 276,000 youth union members. In their efforts to build new rural areas, Điện Biên youths have constructed over 20 kilometers of concrete roads, cleared nearly 820 kilometers of rural traffic routes, and repaired more than 20 community houses. Their contributions also include building 18 bridges, supporting the construction of 131 hygienic toilets, providing lighting for 78.5 kilometers of rural roads, and building 25 waste incinerators.
To maximize the value of these projects, Union levels have focused on effective management and long-term maintenance. Lò Xuân Hạnh, Deputy Secretary of the Điện Biên provincial Youth Union, stated that youth projects must provide substantive efficiency, prioritizing needs linked to people’s livelihoods such as electricity, roads, clean water, or digital transformation. After completion, projects are clearly handed over to management units, with local youth organizations assigned to monitor them. Many locations have even established self-management teams for regular operation. By linking youth projects with major movements and promoting the mobilization of social resources, the Union has ensured sustainability, maintaining 246 civilized routes under the criteria of being bright, green, clean, beautiful, and safe.
On the journey of continuing the heroic traditions of previous generations, the youth of Điện Biên today are writing further “songs of victory” through specific and practical actions. From historical reliefs and lit-up roads to essential civil works, these efforts serve as a testament to the role and responsibility of Điện Biên youths in the cause of building and developing this historically heroic land.
