Homes of gratitude bring new hope

ĐBP - In Điện Biên province, a steady stream of sturdy, well-built homes has been completed, easing the burden of deteriorating and unsafe housing for families of policy beneficiaries and people who have made contributions to the country. Each completed home represents another act of gratitude and care, reflecting society’s appreciation for those who have devoted themselves to their homeland and nation while giving their families renewed hope for a more stable life.

For years, the cramped, makeshift and deteriorating house had been a constant concern for Lò Văn Tật, a person who made contributions to the revolution in Phủ village, Thanh An commune. Now elderly and living in an unsafe home, he had long hoped to have a solid place to live.

The newly built home of Quàng Văn Hặc’s family in Noong Luống village, Thanh Yên commune, is nearing completion.

In June 2025, his family received VND 60 million from the “For the poor” Fund. Combined with the family’s own savings and contributions from the local community, the assistance enabled him to build a new home. When the family moved into their new, spacious and sturdy house, Tật was visibly moved.

“As someone who made contributions to the country, I am very happy that the Party and State have cared for us and provided financial support to build this house. My wife and I feel much more secure living in such a beautiful, solid home.”

In Noong Luống village, Thanh Yên commune, Quàng Văn Hặc, another person who made contributions to the revolution, had also spent many years living in a dilapidated old house. Heavy rains brought constant worries about leaks and further deterioration, while his financial circumstances did not allow him to repair or rebuild the house himself.

Recently, Hặc received VND 60 million from the “Gratitude and remembrance” Fund to build a new home. With support from local authorities and the community, his long-held wish for a safe, solid and comfortable home is now becoming a reality.

The new house has been completed and is undergoing the final finishing work before being put into use. Looking at the home nearing completion, Hặc could not hide his joy.

“I used to live alone and my circumstances were very difficult. I am so happy that the Party and State have cared about me and supported me in building this house.”

Representatives of the Điện Biên provincial Military Command and Búng Lao commune present financial support for the construction of Lò Văn Hòa’s family home.

In practice, the timely completion of these homes of gratitude depends not only on financial assistance from State funds, but also on mobilizing social resources, families’ own contributions, and support from local communities and the armed forces.

The new home of Lò Văn Hòa in Co Nỏng village, Búng Lao commune, whose biological father was a resistance war participant exposed to toxic chemicals, is a clear example of this coordinated approach. To provide Hòa’s family with a safe and comfortable home, the local authorities, together with the Điện Biên provincial Military Command, mobilized resources from multiple sources.

After more than two months of intensive construction, the 105-square-meter house has been completed in full. It includes three bedrooms, a living room, an altar room and a kitchen, along with a heat-resistant metal roof and tiled floors.

The house cost a total of VND 213 million, including VND 70 million in provincial support, with the remainder contributed by the family.

To help complete the project as quickly as possible, the armed forces, local organizations and residents contributed 200 workdays. From transporting construction materials and leveling the site to assisting with construction, community members worked alongside the family at every stage, helping reduce costs and speed up construction.

Those days of labor also reflected the community’s care, sense of responsibility and solidarity with families of people who have made contributions to the country.

Representatives of the Điện Biên Provincial Military Command and Búng Lao Commune authorities attend the inauguration of the “Home of Gratitude” for a person who made contributions to the country.

According to statistics, since 2025, through the housing support Scheme, the “Gratitude and remembrance” Fund and the “For the poor” Fund, Điện Biên province has provided support to build or repair 162 homes for people who made contributions to the revolution, relatives of fallen soldiers, and biological children of resistance war participants exposed to toxic chemicals.

Highlighting the significance of the program, Nguyễn Thị Phương Thảo, Deputy Head of the Culture and Social Affairs Division of Thanh Yên commune, said: “We always ensure that support reaches the right beneficiaries, follows the prescribed assistance levels, and is provided openly and transparently. The results demonstrate the attention of Party committees and authorities at all levels, while also providing encouragement for policy beneficiary families to stabilize their lives and strengthening the trust of people who have made contributions to the country and the wider community in the Party and State.”

Every completed home means another policy beneficiary family now has a stable and safe place to live. It also demonstrates the effectiveness of combining the Party and State’s humane social policies with contributions from the wider community.

These homes, built with care and gratitude, are giving people who have made contributions to the country and their families renewed confidence and motivation to build more prosperous and fulfilling lives.
