Food safety in Điện Biên well supervised

ĐBP - In 2024, authorities in Điện Biên province inspected food-related establishments and uncovered 267 facilities that failed to meet food safety standards. Among them, 266 establishments were fined, and one was ordered to cease operation.

These figures were released during a conference held on April 8 to review the 2024 food safety efforts and launch the 2025 action month for food safety.

With numerous major events held across the province in 2024, attracting visitors from around the country, ensuring food safety remained a top priority. Relevant agencies implemented a range of measures to strengthen leadership and accountability at all administrative levels.

Inspection, supervision, and post-inspection reviews were carried out effectively, allowing authorities to promptly detect and address violations. Over the year, a total of 6,232 food production, processing, and service establishments were inspected. Violations led to fines totaling over VND 446 million, and one facility was shut down. Various food products of unknown origin or past their expiration date with a total value exceeding VND 30 million were confiscated and destroyed.

Efforts to raise public awareness and provide training on food safety were ramped up, contributing to improved knowledge, responsibility, and safe practices among managers, business owners, and households involved in food production and consumption. Measures to prevent food poisoning were also strictly enforced. Notably, no major food poisoning cases or fatalities were reported in Điện Biên throughout 2024.

The 2025 action month for food safety, running from April 15 to May 15, carries the theme: “Ensuring food safety with a focus on institutional kitchens, catering services, and street food”. During this campaign, inter-agency food safety committees at all levels will intensify communication efforts to raise awareness and promote accountability among Party committees, government agencies, officials, Party members, and citizens.

Inspections and monitoring will be strengthened to ensure food safety and security, while violations by individuals and businesses will be dealt with firmly. Authorities will also focus on preventing and addressing foodborne illnesses and minimizing risks associated with unsafe food.

On this occasion, the provincial Department of Health awarded certificates of merit to 13 collectives and 27 individuals for their outstanding contributions to food safety efforts in 2024.
