Effective support policies drive progress in Tủa Chùa

ĐBP - Tủa Chùa commune is home to six ethnic groups, with ethnic minorities accounting for over 83% of its population. In recent years, thanks to the close attention and guidance of the Party and the State, along with the coordinated efforts of local authorities, ethnic minority policies have been effectively localized to fit real conditions. These initiatives have transformed the mountainous rural landscape and improved the living standards of local residents.

Thanks to the effective implementation of support policies, the poverty rate in Tủa Chùa commune dropped from 32% in 2020 to just over 20% in 2024. Trần Văn Kiên, Vice Chairman of the Tủa Chùa commune People’s Committee, shared: “We always consider translating the Party’s and State’s guidelines and policies into real life as a central task. As a result, living conditions have improved, and local infrastructure has been strengthened.”

Through the comprehensive implementation of national target programs, numerous essential infrastructure projects, such as electricity, roads, schools, and health stations, have been built, meeting the daily, educational, and healthcare needs of residents. Both material and spiritual well-being have steadily improved; children now study in better environments, and new livelihood models have created jobs, raised incomes, and fostered self-reliance among ethnic minorities, helping them achieve sustainable poverty reduction.

Tòng Văn Phong, Secretary of the Tiên Phong hamlet’s Party Cell, recalled: “Before the road project, we had to walk along the rice field embankments to reach the production area. After the commune and village agreed on a plan for a new production zone that would also serve future housing, we encouraged households to donate land for the road. Thanks to people’s support, the concrete road has been started. Once completed, it will open new development opportunities and motivate villagers to increase their income and stabilize their lives.”

For Quàng Văn Khủm, head of Nà Áng hamlet, limited farming experience and investment capital had long kept his family in hardship. They depended mainly on corn, rice, and small-scale livestock, with fluctuating yields and frequent animal diseases. Despite year-round hard work, poverty persisted.

Under the 2024 ethnic minority economic development support policy, his family received over 200 Thai jackfruit saplings to replace upland fields. After being trained in cultivation techniques and provided with fertilizers, nearly 90% of the saplings survived and are now growing well. On expert advice, Khủm intercropped coffee and short-term crops on the same land to increase income and reduce weeds before the jackfruit trees bear fruit.

He shared enthusiastically: “After more than a year, the Thai jackfruit trees have adapted well to Nà Áng’s soil and climate and are growing lushly. Thirteen households here are planting Thai jackfruit on more than nine hectares. If things go smoothly, in just a few years, we’ll have a productive fruit-growing area that provides a stable income.”

The newly concreted road leads to the Tiên Phong hamlet production area.

For locals, the satisfaction comes not only from the thriving trees but also from learning to apply scientific and technical advances in farming, shifting toward market-oriented production. This change in mindset is helping them build sustainable livelihoods and gradually escape poverty on their own land.

Tòng Thị Việt, another resident, shared her optimism: “Through the project, my family received seedlings, fertilizer, and guidance from agricultural officers on how to dig holes, plant, and care for the trees at each growth stage. Seeing the green rows of jackfruit trees makes me happy and confident in this new livelihood direction.”

According to Tòng Văn Siu, an agricultural extension officer in Tủa Chùa commune: “Under the national target program for sustainable poverty reduction, we have implemented several economic development models, including Thai jackfruit cultivation. We regularly visit the fields to instruct people on digging, planting, pruning, fertilizing, and pest prevention. Most of the jackfruit trees are growing well, many are already flowering.”

Thanks to the Party and State’s policies, along with the unity and determination of local authorities and residents, Tủa Chùa today is undergoing visible transformation, seen in every home, road, and field. The flourishing fruit orchards and newly built public works stand as vivid proof of the effectiveness of ethnic minority policies in practice. With creativity, self-reliance, and strong community spirit, the people of this mountainous commune are writing their own story of sustainable poverty reduction and building a more prosperous homeland.
