At the beginning of the academic year, the Youth Union of the Thái Nguyên University’s Branch in Điện Biên launched the “Digital literacy for all” movement through a range of practical activities, linking digital skills development with students’ studies and future careers.
Through training sessions, knowledge-sharing activities and hands-on practice, Youth Union members have been introduced to digital platforms and software for designing lessons, developing digital learning materials, creating presentations, and testing and assessing learners. From digital tools such as Canva, PowerPoint and Google Forms to online classroom management platforms, members have received step-by-step, hands-on guidance.
Through each activity, Youth Union members and students have gradually developed the habit of using technology in their studies and gained a clearer understanding of how digital tools can be applied in the classroom.
Tòng Thị Đông, a Youth Union member at the Thai Nguyen University branch in Điện Biên, said: “I used to know how to use only a few basic applications. Since receiving guidance from the university’s Youth Union, I have become much more proficient and have also taken the initiative to explore and learn more. Once we have mastered these skills, each of us will continue to share them with and guide our friends. I believe that when everyone becomes an active “link” in the chain, the spirit of digital transformation will spread more strongly throughout the university.”
Alongside equipping Youth Union members with digital skills, Điện Biên is also focusing on strengthening the digital capabilities of grassroots Youth Union officials. Training covers the application of digital transformation as well as innovative approaches to Youth Union communication and education in the digital space.
During a training course held late last August, nearly 100 Youth Union officials from across the province learned how to use artificial intelligence (AI) to create communication products, including infographics, video clips, news stories and other informational materials.
Beyond adding practical skills for their work, mastering digital tools enables Youth Union officials to deliver information to young people more quickly and in more engaging, visual formats, while better matching the ways younger audiences consume information.
Nguyễn Thị Thu Hà, Deputy Secretary of the Youth Union at Điện Biên College, said: “Previously, to complete an infographic or video clip, we had to develop the idea, gather materials, write the content and handle each stage of the design process ourselves. Now, AI can assist with many of these tasks. From suggesting ideas and developing layouts to editing content and helping create images and videos, AI tools save time while expanding the creative possibilities for grassroots Youth Union officials.”
Building on the digital skills they have acquired, Youth Union officials at Điện Biên College have passed their knowledge on to students across the college, tailoring their guidance to the curricula of specific fields and occupations.
For example, students in tourism and hospitality programs are shown how to use Canva and CapCut to create communication products, produce videos introducing tours and design professional restaurant menus. For students in engineering and technology fields, Youth Union officials help them use AI to search for specialized materials.
Mùa Chiến Thắng, Secretary of the Điện Biên provincial Youth Union, said: “To ensure that the movement becomes more substantive and delivers practical results, the provincial Youth Union will continue implementing coordinated measures to promote the application of digital skills in real-life situations. We place a strong emphasis on young people’s pioneering and creative spirit and are determined to make technology use a daily habit, enabling every Youth Union member to become a key force in spreading digital knowledge throughout the community.”
The “Digital literacy for all” movement in Điện Biên is generating a vibrant wave of enthusiasm, clearly demonstrating the pioneering and proactive role of young people in the technology era.
Through its practical and creative hands-on approach, the movement is not only equipping young people and students with basic digital knowledge and skills, but also bringing new energy to their learning and work and giving them greater confidence in using digital tools.
The provincial Youth Union will continue expanding effective models, encouraging young people to experiment and apply technology to innovate teaching and learning methods as well as Youth Union activities. By enabling every Youth Union official and member to become a key force in digital transformation, the movement aims to spread digital learning and knowledge more widely and effectively throughout the community.
