Điện Biên synchronously renovates park, greenery, and sidewalk system

ĐBP - The system of parks, trees, and sidewalks plays a crucial role in creating landscapes, enhancing living quality, and forming a modern urban appearance. In Điện Biên province’s Điện Biên Phủ and Mường Thanh wards, despite serving as the provincial development core, the system of trees, parks, and landscape infrastructure exhibits numerous limitations requiring synchronous renovation under planning to satisfy green, smart, and sustainable urban construction requirements.

According to specialized agency evaluations, current central urban space lacks organization under a unified whole, with landscape axes and public spaces failing to take distinct shape while the tree system develops without clear direction, exhibiting irrational distribution and unsynchronized tree species. Numerous sidewalk stretches are degraded, encroached upon, or improperly utilized, impacting aesthetics and traffic safety.

The tree system on Nguyễn Chí Thanh street, Điện Biên Phủ ward, remains unsynchronized.

This reality is reflected clearly across the existing public park system. Across the two wards, 6 parks and flower gardens exist, encompassing A1-C4 Park spanning 8,189 square meters, Vừ A Dính Park at 8,547 square meters, Him Lam Park at 1,845 square meters, Võ Thị Sáu Park at 47,857 square meters, Noong Bua Park at 6,827 square meters, and Khe Chít Park at 3,059 square meters. Most parks exhibit degradation featuring peeling yard grounds, poor drainage systems, and a lack of public amenities such as children’s play areas, fitness equipment, resting benches, and lighting systems. Numerous greenery zones develop spontaneously without synchronous planning, failing to maximize their role as community activity spaces and urban landscape highlights.

Regarding street tree systems, surveys along primary axes reveal disparities in quantity, species, and tree quality. Võ Nguyên Giáp street currently holds roughly 1,076 trees distributed unevenly, with numerous stretches lacking landscape connectivity. Nguyễn Hữu Thọ street features roughly 360 trees - including many mixed species - while Phạm Văn Đồng street holds roughly 309 trees, consisting mostly of young trees that have yet to form a characteristic landscape. Along numerous routes such as Trường Chinh, Nguyễn Chí Thanh, or Hoàng Anh streets, tree systems develop unsynchronized.

Facing this reality, the province determined that renovating the system of parks, trees, and sidewalks must be executed synchronously with urban planning, linked to goals of constructing a green, modern city, creating landscape highlights, and boosting tourism development. Under the proposal by the Department of Construction, the immediate focus lies in forming a system of 7 street tree routes across Điện Biên Phủ ward with a total length of roughly 21 km, with routes planned under individual themes to build distinct landscape identities for each area.

Prominent among these stands the Ban Flower route spanning roughly 5.83 km across Hoàng Anh, Nguyễn Hữu Thọ, Phạm Văn Đồng, and Hoàng Văn Thái streets, designated as a symbolic urban axis connecting the city gateway with key historical relics. Along this route, Ban flower systems will be planted synchronously on both roadside edges while preserving valuable long-standing Senna siamea trees to create a characteristic image for Điện Biên.

Võ Nguyên Giáp street will be oriented to become the provincial central avenue and festival space, where beside infrastructure renovation, tree systems will be planted synchronously alongside landscape lighting to form pedestrian and community activity spaces, with the area leading from the foot of the Victory Monument to the Điện Biên Phủ Museum planted with jacaranda trees to create a new highlight for central urban space.

Other supplementary routes - such as Trần Đăng Ninh, Trường Chinh, and Nguyễn Chí Thanh - are oriented for renovation according to individual functions, with Trường Chinh and Nguyễn Chí Thanh streets replacing mixed trees with synchronous Madagascar almond trees. The Raymonde Dien riverside route along the Nậm Rốm river will be developed into a pedestrian space combined with tourism featuring characteristic Ban flower rows, connecting landscapes between Vừ A Dính Park and the riverside area.

Parallel with street tree renovation, the province sets targets to comprehensively renovate existing parks, upgrading walkway systems, lighting, greenery, play areas, fitness equipment, and public amenities synchronously. Long-term plans include thematic parks linked with Ban flowers and historical relic hills, serving as a solution to elevate urban environmental quality while generating distinct tourism products for the locality.

A notable point involves tree and park renovation being deployed synchronously with the policy to expand 7/5 Square, viewed as the heart of provincial political and cultural space. Under the proposal, the square will be expanded into three sub-zones with a total area exceeding 43,000 square meters - encompassing a square area combined with a park, musical fountain, and night market along the Nậm Rốm river - creating a modern, multi-functional public space rich in identity.

Renovating parks, trees, and sidewalks synchronously with planning not only improves landscapes, but also contributes to creating a green, civilized, and modern appearance for central Điện Biên, as harmoniously connected streets, parks, squares, and public spaces will enhance attraction for residents, tourists, and investors, driving Điện Biên to develop strongly in the new era.
