Having presided over the meeting, Mr. Mùa A Vảng, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Điện Biên Province, emphasized the need to expedite the housing support process while ensuring both progress and quality of the project.
The Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Điện Biên Province implemented a detailed plan and allocated funds to support construction of gratitude houses for poor and near-poor households living in border villages across the four districts above. The project provided financial assistance for the construction of 300 houses, distributed as follows: 84 houses in Điện Biên District, 150 houses in Nậm Pồ District, 20 houses in Mường Chà District, and 46 houses in Mường Nhé District. Each household receives VNĐ 50 million, with the total budget for the project amounting to VNĐ 15 billion.
As of now, 121 houses have been completed, 41 are in the roofing stage, 72 are in the process of frame and wall construction, and 32 houses are under foundation construction. However, 34 houses have not yet commenced. Among the 300 houses, 121 are built with steel frames, 119 follow traditional wooden construction, and 60 are made of bricks.
By December 31, 2024, the province’s “Fund for the poor” had received and distributed VNĐ 10 billion to the four districts to facilitate the project’s implementation.
During the conference, representatives from the four districts reported on the project’s progress and raised several challenges, such as the review and verification of application dossiers, funding for plaques, national flags, and portraits of President Hồ Chí Minh to present to each recipient. In particular, Nậm Pồ District urged the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Điện Biên Province to disburse the remaining funds promptly to support house construction for local families.
In his concluding remarks, Mr. Mùa A Vảng stressed that the progress of housing construction for poor and near-poor households in border areas remains behind schedule, with several houses yet to begin construction. He requested local authorities of the four districts to expedite the project while maintaining quality and adhering to specified dimensions.
He specifically directed Mường Chà and Mường Nhé Districts to complete all houses before the Lunar New Year 2025 (Tet) holiday, ensuring that families can move into their new homes in time for the Tet celebration. Meanwhile, Điện Biên and Nậm Pồ Districts, which have a larger number of houses to build, were instructed to prioritize completing houses already under construction, while initiating the remaining houses for completion by the first quarter of this year.
Furthermore, he called on the province’s functional agencies to coordinate with sponsors to promptly disburse the remaining funds to Nậm Pồ District.
