Điện Biên Phủ Newspaper recognised for strong progress in digital transformation

ĐBP – On December 16, the Press Authority under the Ministry of Information and Communications announced the 2024 evaluation results for digital transformation maturity in journalism. In its first year of participation, Điện Biên Phủ Newspaper achieved a “good” rating, placing it among the top 25 local media outlets recognised for their progress in digital transformation.

Điện Biên Phủ Newspaper has received significant backing from the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee to implement its Digital Transformation Project. This support presents a valuable opportunity for the newspaper to develop into a multimedia, multi-platform, and converged newsroom, aligning with current digital transformation trends.

The editorial board has taken proactive responsibility in coordinating with departments, agencies, and advising the Provincial Party Committee and the People’s Committee on newsroom development strategies and digital transformation initiatives.

To date, the newspaper has successfully installed a Content Management System (CMS) and launched a new interface for its online platform. It has also introduced an English-language section and proposed additional pages in Thái, Mông, and Chinese languages. Điện Biên Phủ Newspaper continues to push forward with its digital transformation by enhancing its electronic publication with multimedia content such as e-magazines, short videos, podcasts, and weather updates. It also leverages AI technology and expands its presence on social media platforms like Facebook and YouTube.

In 2024, 351 press agencies participated in training programmes on assessing and measuring digital transformation maturity.

Of these, 339 agencies successfully completed the required exercises and were provided official accounts to measure their digital transformation progress between November 1 and 15. The level of digital transformation maturity for press agencies is determined based on their total scores across five pillars and classified into five categories: Excellent: 90 points or above; Good: 75 to below 90 points; Fair: 60 to below 75 points; Average: 50 to below 60 points; Weak: below 50 points.

The evaluation is based on five key pillars: strategy, digital infrastructure, platforms and information security; organisational and professional alignment; audience engagement (readers, viewers, listeners); and the level of technology adoption.

The digital transformation maturity index serves as a tool to monitor and assess the annual digital transformation status of press agencies. It allows for comparisons and rankings between agencies and over time, highlighting strengths to build upon, weaknesses to address, and providing insights to help press agencies and relevant stakeholders implement suitable digital transformation strategies.

This effort aims to achieve the objectives outlined in the Digital Transformation Strategy for Journalism to 2025, with a Vision to 2030.
