Right from the beginning of the year, the health sector advised the provincial People’s Committee to issue plans and directives on preventing and controlling communicable diseases, including dengue fever; instructed medical agencies to prepare sufficient supplies, chemicals, and necessary equipment to ensure effective disease prevention and control. The provincial Center for Disease Control developed a 2025 dengue prevention plan, strengthened surveillance of suspected cases, and investigated disease vectors. Training was organized for grassroots medical staff on outbreak handling skills; guidance was provided on monitoring, preventing, and controlling dengue fever, organizing environmental sanitation campaigns, eliminating mosquito larvae, and using spraying machines and chemicals in outbreak handling.
Regional health centers instructed commune health stations to advise local authorities to coordinate with the health sector to develop and implement plans in response to the 15th ASEAN Dengue Day. They mobilized active participation from agencies, mass organizations, and social organizations to launch and maintain regular environmental sanitation and mosquito larva elimination campaigns to prevent mosquito breeding. Communication activities on dengue prevention were carried out on mass media.

At the Thanh Nưa commune Health Station, communication on dengue fever symptoms was broadcast on village loudspeakers, directly conveyed during medical consultations, and integrated into community activities. As a result, public awareness on dengue prevention has improved, and no dengue cases have been recorded in the commune to date.
Dr. Phạm Bá Đạt, Head of the Thanh Nưa commune Health Station, said: “After the administrative merger, Thanh Nưa commune has a large area and dense population, so disease prevention communication, especially dengue fever, is always our top priority. The station closely coordinates with the grassroots health network and village-level organizations to disseminate information, organize environmental sanitation drives, clear bushes, treat water containers, and prevent mosquito larvae breeding. For people returning from other localities, especially from outbreak areas, the station works with villages to encourage health declarations and closely monitor for suspicious symptoms. Any abnormal signs are promptly handled.”
Guided by commune medical staff, Mr. Lò Văn Hiến from Pe Luông village, Thanh Nưa commune, has taken the initiative to protect his family’s health. “After receiving instructions from medical staff, every week my family cleans the surroundings, turns over water containers, and always sleeps under mosquito nets,” he said.
To prevent dengue fever, the best approach is to proactively eliminate Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, larvae, and pupae in living areas. Keep water containers tightly covered, scrub the inside at least once a week, release larva-eating fish into household water storage, turn over unused water containers, remove trash and items that can hold stagnant water, maintain environmental hygiene, sleep under mosquito nets even during the day, and cooperate with the health sector in larva elimination and mosquito spraying campaigns.
