Caring for workers ahead of Tết: Trade unions roll out practical support

ĐBP - Guided by the motto “No union member or worker left behind at the Lunar New Year (Tết),” trade unions at all levels across the province have been rolling out a wide range of practical activities in the final days of the year to care for union members and workers.

These efforts help ensure that workers can welcome Tết in a joyful, warm, and meaningful way with their families and loved ones.

The Mường Thanh ward Trade Union currently has more than 1,520 members across 14 grassroots trade unions, many of whom face difficult living conditions.

According to Trần Thị Lan Hương, Chairwoman of the Mường Thanh ward Trade Union, to promptly support workers ahead of Tết, the ward union instructed grassroots unions to review and compile lists of disadvantaged members to participate in the online program “Trade union Tết market - Spring 2026”. As a result, 226 union members received electronic shopping vouchers (e-vouchers) worth VND 500,000 each. To date, 95% of union members and workers have completed their orders and received goods tailored to their needs.

With funding support from the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour and the provincial Labour Federation, the Mường Thanh ward Trade Union provided Tết gifts to 65 union members and travel allowances for 20 members returning home for Tết, with a total value of more than VND 94 million. In addition, grassroots unions were encouraged to coordinate with employers to organize Tết gift-giving, year-end union meals, and cultural, artistic, and sporting activities, as well as traditional Chưng cake wrapping, creating a festive and uplifting atmosphere for workers. So far, 265 union members and workers at grassroots unions have received Tết gifts totaling more than VND 150 million, and four units and enterprises have successfully organized “year-end union meals.”

Leaders of the provincial Labour Federation present travel allowances to union members and workers at the “Warm Tết reunion - Spring in gratitude to the Party” program in 2026.

To ensure timely Tết care for workers, the Tuần Giáo commune Trade Union instructed its 13 grassroots unions to identify disadvantaged members for support, while strengthening dialogue and negotiations with employers on production plans, salaries, Tết bonuses, and measures to improve workers’ material and spiritual well-being during the holiday. At the same time, resources from enterprises and local authorities were mobilized to visit and present gifts to workers.

Phạm Ngọc Nhưng, Chairman of the Tuần Giáo commune Trade Union, said that under the online “Trade union Tết market - Spring 2026” program, 144 registered union members have already purchased and received goods. The commune Trade Union is continuing to implement the program for another 200 members, aiming to complete ordering and delivery before the Lunar New Year of the Horse 2026. In parallel, more than 120 disadvantaged union members and workers have been proposed to the provincial Labour Federation for Tết gifts, while 15 members have received support for travel expenses to return home for the holiday.

With the goal of providing timely care and support for union members and workers during Tết, the provincial Labour Federation has launched numerous practical initiatives in recent times. In addition to directing grassroots unions to proactively organize Tết activities, the federation will visit and present more than 700 gift packages to disadvantaged workers.

On February 2, the provincial Labour Federation held the program “Warm Tết reunion - Spring in gratitude to the Party” for union members and workers across the province on the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2026. At the event, 100 gift packages were presented, each worth VND 1.3 million in cash and gifts, to workers in especially difficult circumstances. Travel allowances of VND 500,000 per person were provided to 100 union members and workers who have faced long term hardship and have not been able to return home for Tết for many years. In addition, online shopping vouchers were distributed to selected workers, alongside activities such as Chưng cake wrapping contests and traditional five-fruit tray displays.

These meaningful initiatives have underscored the vital role of the trade union in caring for the material and spiritual lives of union members and workers, helping them welcome a joyful and hopeful spring and celebrate Lunar New Year 2026 in good spirits.
