Practical and sentimental actions have contributed to improving the material and spiritual lives of these families, embodying the national tradition of “When drinking water, remember its source.”
Hà Xuân Thu, a 68% invalid veteran living in Residential Group 1, Điện Biên Phủ ward, is one of the exemplary policy families in the area. Despite the losses and physical pain left by the war, Hà Xuân Thu maintains the optimistic spirit and resilient will of a soldier. In daily life, he serves as a bright example of energy, actively participating in residential activities and educating his children to uphold the family tradition. For many years, his family has received thoughtful care from various sectors and local authorities. For him, while material gifts are practical, the most precious thing is the respect and affection the society holds for those who sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland. This timely attention provides the motivation for him to live healthily and remain a spiritual pillar for his family.
The care for those with meritorious service is implemented synchronously and widely across the province. In Mường Lạn commune, which is home to 31 policy families, the local Party committee and authorities frequently organize visits to offer encouragement. Vũ Tiến Thặng, Vice Chairman of the Mường Lạn commune People’s Committee, stated that caring for policy families is a regular and long-term task. In addition to fully implementing state policies, the commune mobilizes social resources to provide extra support for households facing difficulties.
According to statistics, the province currently manages over 16,000 records of meritorious people and their relatives. Each month, preferential allowances are paid to more than 1,000 individuals, with a total budget exceeding VND 3.5 billion. During the Bính Ngọ 2026 Lunar New Year, the province organized gift-giving for 37,806 people with a total budget of over VND 15 billion. Specifically, 1,291 meritorious individuals and representatives of martyrs’ families received gifts totaling over VND 500 million, ensuring a warm holiday season. Additionally, the President’s Tet gifts were delivered to 1,315 people in the area, totaling nearly VND 400 million, showing deep gratitude for their revolutionary sacrifices.
The gratitude movement has spread extensively, especially during holidays and the Wounded and Martyrs’ Day (July 27). Meaningful activities include awarding savings books, supporting the construction and repair of houses for disadvantaged families, providing scholarships for children of policy families, and organizing health consultations. These specific actions have boosted the confidence and motivation of policy families to stabilize and improve their quality of life. Furthermore, localities focus on creating conditions for these families to develop their economies and increase their income through effective production models, helping them escape poverty sustainably.
The dedicated care from the government and society has created a solid foundation for meritorious people in Điện Biên. These meaningful deeds not only consolidate public trust but also spread profound human values, continuing to promote the fine traditions of the nation in the cause of building and developing the homeland.
