Officers and soldiers are demonstrating strong resolve to “train hard, drill strictly”, achieving practical results to mark the 47th anniversary of the Division’s founding (May 4, 1979 - May 4, 2026) and the 53rd anniversary of the Regiment (May 19, 1973 - May 19, 2026).
Under the blazing April sun, new recruits remain fully engaged in training. Just two months ago, they were young conscripts with hesitant, unfamiliar expressions on their first day of enlistment. Now, each of them shows growing maturity, resilience, confidence and pride.
Beneath his helmet brim, sweat runs down the face of solider Lò Văn Quý of Platoon 10, Company 11, Battalion 3. After a period of training, Quý has gradually mastered key shooting techniques, controlling his breathing, stabilizing his rifle and executing proper aiming. Movements such as cheek weld, shoulder positioning, breath control and trigger squeeze have become increasingly precise, with steady posture and smooth coordination between soldier and weapon.
Quý shared: “In the early days of entering this new environment, my comrades and I inevitably felt unfamiliar with everything, from daily routines and schedules to discipline and working methods. But through training and practice, we have gradually overcome those initial difficulties, adapted to military life and mastered our training tasks.”
Despite unpredictable weather, with both heat and sudden rain, across all training grounds, officers and soldiers of Regiment 82 remain undeterred, maintaining intensive practice in line with plans and programs, driven by the determination to “overcome the sun and defeat the rain”. Units are focusing on specialized technical training, mastering new weapons and equipment, and intensifying tactical drills at all levels to meet combat readiness requirements.
To improve training quality, the Party Committee and command of Regiment 82 have directed strict maintenance of post-training inspections and evaluations after each session. Results are classified down to each individual. Mistakes are corrected immediately - minor errors addressed on the spot, while more significant ones require repeated drills in formation. Rotational training among teams and groups is also implemented to ensure comprehensive skill development.
Senior Captain Hà Trọng Hoàng, Political Commissar of Battalion 2, said that throughout the training of new recruits, his unit as well as others strictly maintains daily and weekly evaluation and emulation systems. “Results are publicly announced to draw lessons and provide timely support for those who still face difficulties”, he said. Emulation movements are widely promoted and tied to each training phase, focusing on criteria such as discipline, training performance, responsibility and unit-building awareness. Models like “excellent training teams,” “model training weeks,” and “outstanding new recruits” have proven effective in fostering a dynamic competitive atmosphere.
The close combination of evaluation and commendation has delivered clear results. Outstanding collectives and individuals are promptly recognized and rewarded, while shortcomings are seriously addressed and corrected. As a result, training quality for new recruits has improved significantly. To date, 100% of soldiers have completed the full training program as required; political awareness has been strengthened, and a clear sense of mission established. Technical and tactical proficiency has improved markedly, enhancing coordinated combat capabilities.
Major Lê Hồng Việt, Head of the Political Office of Regiment 82, noted that building soldiers’ resilience is achieved through realistic training and exercises under challenging conditions. Troops are placed in scenarios close to real combat, thereby strengthening their willpower, confidence, endurance and determination to overcome hardship. Officers at all levels maintain close ties with soldiers, promptly understanding their thoughts and concerns, and fostering a united, supportive environment. Political and ideological education is also carried out rigorously, with practical content tailored to new recruits. Through studying military traditions, unit history and the mission of national defense, soldiers enhance their awareness, reinforce their confidence, clarify their motivation and responsibility, and remain eager to compete and ready to undertake and fulfill all assigned tasks.
With high morale and strong responsibility, young soldiers of Regiment 82 are determined to achieve the goals of “excellent training, high combat readiness, rapid mobility and decisive victory”. They are preparing for the final “three-bang test” following three months of recruit training. The results achieved will serve as a vital foundation, boosting confidence and motivation for these young soldiers to continue striving, training and successfully fulfilling all assigned missions, contributing to building the Vietnam People’s Army into a more regular, elite and modern force.
