Building strong family bonds
Every afternoon, after work, Hoàng Thị Hồng Trang and her husband, residents of Residential Group No.9, Nam Thanh ward (Điện Biên Phủ city), take walks with their children to improve their health. Despite their busy schedules, the couple has maintained this daily routine for years. For them, it’s more than just exercise, it’s a time to talk about work, family matters, and life’s pressures. This simple habit helps them nurture and preserve their family happiness.
“My family has kept this routine for many years”, she shared. “Although we don’t walk or talk for long each day, it’s enough for us and our children to understand one another better. That closeness and sharing make our home more joyful, warm, and loving.”

In the hustle and bustle of modern life, Nguyễn Thị Nhung, a resident of Thanh Bình ward (Điện Biên Phủ city), finds her family to be a source of strength and motivation. For her, love, care, and mutual support are the guiding principles of a happy home. “Only when families are harmonious and happy can society grow sustainably and thrive”, she believed. To maintain a strong family, each member must learn to love, understand, and support one another.
“In the fast pace of modern life, where time is increasingly precious, preserving traditional values and nurturing family happiness is more vital than ever”, Nhung said. “For me, family is everything. It’s where I return after a long, exhausting day of work and study. That’s why maintaining a happy home is not just one person’s responsibility, it belongs to every member of the family.”
In their warm home in Thanh Đông hamlet, Thanh Xương commune (Điện Biên district), Lò Lâm Sung’s family spans three generations living together. His parents, both over 80 years old, radiate joy every time they see their children and grandchildren. Despite his demanding job, Sung always makes time to care for his parents and keep the family closely connected.
“Maintaining a harmonious, happy three-generation household isn’t easy”, shared Sung. “Everyone has to contribute to nurturing the home, sharing challenges in life and work, caring for one another, and keeping the bond strong.”
Happy homes, thriving society
Building happy and prosperous families is a key priority for Vietnam’s Party and State, forming the foundation for a modern, prosperous, and civilized society. Implementing the national strategy for family development, Điện Biên province has placed great emphasis on raising public awareness about family values through communication campaigns and education. These efforts promote understanding of the Party’s and State’s policies on family in the context of national development.
Local authorities and organizations have also focused on policies and programs to improve the material and spiritual well-being of families, supporting children, the elderly, and women, while working to prevent domestic violence and promote gender equality.
Across the province, various campaigns and initiatives are helping build strong, progressive, and happy families. These include the “All people unite to build new rural areas and civilized cities” movement; “Mobilizing and supporting women to build happy, prosperous, civilized families”; and the “5 no’s, 3 clean’s” model. Family Happiness Clubs have also been established to encourage healthy lifestyles, economic development, and the rejection of outdated customs.
The Vietnam Family Day (June 28) has become a major cultural event celebrating the traditional values of the Vietnamese family. With the 2025 message “Happy homes, stronger country”, the day highlights the importance of building happy, progressive, and civilized families, protecting and educating children, and contributing to the nation’s development and defense.
According to Nông Thị Thịnh, Head of the Family, Society, and Economic Affairs Committee under the provincial Women’s Union, this year’s theme emphasizes the family’s crucial role in a country’s prosperity and strength. The family is where individuals are born, raised, and educated, and where cultural values are preserved and passed on. “A strong, happy society and a prosperous nation begin with happy families, ” she underlined.
