French Embassy holds working session with Điện Biên on development projects

ĐBP — French Ambassador to Việt Nam Olivier Brochet led a delegation to Điện Biên Province and held a working session with local authorities on January 30.

A member of the French Embassy’s working delegation introduces projects currently underway by the French Development Agency (AFD) in Điện Biên Province.

Lê Thành Đô, vice secretary of the provincial Party Committee and chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, along with leaders of other local departments, attended the session.

Representatives from Điện Biên Province shared information on projects invested by the French Development Agency (AFD) and exchanges between Kerraoul High School of France and Lương Thế Vinh High School of Điện Biên Phủ City.

According to local authorities, the Nậm Rốm River Basin Multi-Disaster Management Project is currently underway in Điện Biên Province, utilizing Official Development Assistance (ODA) capital from AFD to protect people's lives, adapt to climate change, and foster socio-economic development, with a total investment of more than VNĐ981 billion.

Five out of seven construction and installation packages are in progress, meeting the project's scheduled progress and maintaining high quality.

Local authorities of Điện Biên Province agreed with the French side’s proposal to organize an exchange between the two high schools and requested the embassy to send an official document to the provincial People’s Committee.

With the desire and efforts to promote friendly relations and cooperation between Điện Biên Province and French agencies and organizations, Điện Biên’s authorities hope that the ambassador will continue to consider investing in the second phase of the Nậm Rốm River basin multi-disaster management project and soon sponsor the lighting systems for Mường Thanh Bridge and Bridge A1 with a total estimated cost of VNĐ4.7 billion.

The province also proposed the ambassador continue to invest in the integrated water resource management project to serve people's livelihoods, adapt to climate change, and boost the socio-economic development of Tuần Giáo District.

Highly appreciating the thoughtful and warm welcome of the Điện Biên Province’s leaders, Ambassador Olivier Brochet emphasized that Điện Biên is one of the localities with many potentials and advantages that the French Government is extremely interested in, and will soon make proposals on kicking off projects as well as other areas mentioned by local authorities.
