Điện Biên Đông’s police force makes efforts to ensure security during Tết

ĐBP - As the 2025 Lunar New Year (Tết) holiday approaches, police force in Điện Biên Đông District, Điện Biên Province have launched a campaign to ensure public security, crack down on crimes, and promote legal awareness among residents. These efforts aim to guarantee a joyful, safe, and secure Tết holiday for all.

Điện Biên Đông is home to 6 ethnic minority groups, with Mông people making up more than 50% of the population. Due to cultural traditions, Mông people celebrate Tết nearly a month earlier than the Lunar New Year.

During this time, the return of young people and migrant workers increases the population, along with higher traffic volumes. Starting in December, the Điện Biên Đông District Police Department began implementing plans and coordinating with local authorities to raise the public’s awareness and urge them to sign agreements to ensure and join hands in local social order and security.

The Lunar New Year in Điện Biên Province in particular is also marked by spring festivals, featuring cultural, artistic, and sports events, including bullfighting, which attract tens of thousands of locals and tourists. Thus, proactive measures to combat crimes and address potential issues, coupled with public awareness campaigns to heighten their vigilance and responsibility in joining hands with law enforcement force, are critical to maintaining local order and security.

According to Captain Lò Văn Thu, Deputy Head of the Security Team under the Điện Biên Đông District’s Police Division, ensuring public order and raising the public’s awareness is a year-round priority, especially during Tết. Leading up to the annual traditional holiday, the district’s Police Division has worked with local authorities to organize efforts, including mobilizing local households to ink agreements to prevent illegal activities such as the sale or use of explosives, drunk driving, and fire safety violations. During Tết, 100% of the district’s police officers are on duty, except for those on approved leave. Specialized task forces and detailed plans have been established to solve specific needs, ensuring maximum effectiveness.

Điện Biên Đông Town in the district, the main venue for spring festivals, has actively raised local people’s awareness of seriously observing laws, clearing sidewalks and traffic corridors, and enhancing fire safety measures. Captain Mai Văn Đạt, Deputy Chief of the town’s police force, stated that the influx of tourists and locals during spring festivals necessitate additional patrols, association with other functional forces, and mobilization of local security teams to maintain social order.

Given the high number of visitors requiring accommodations, the town’s police force has begun inspecting guesthouses and lodgings since December 2024. Owners were instructed to post prices, ensure fire safety compliance, and prepare for the surge in number of tourists. Mr. Nguyễn Đức Cường, owner of Như Ngọc Guesthouse in Cluster No.5 of Điện Biên Đông Town, shared: “After receiving instructions, we cleaned our rooms, upgraded amenities, and added fire extinguishers to ensure safety for our customers during the busy Tết season.”

With a high level of focus and effective implementation of security plans, the Điện Biên Đông District’s Police Division are well-prepared to maintain political stability and social order during the upcoming Tết holiday. Their efforts have provided reassurance for residents and visitors to enjoy a safe and happy Tết celebration.
