Điện Biên to implement comprehensive digital transformation in 2025

ĐBP - On January 17, the Điện Biên Province’s Department of Information and Communications held a conference to review task performance in 2024 and roll out missions in 2025. Mr. Lê Thành Đô, Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, attended the event.

Reportedly, outstanding results of the provincial information and communications sector in 2024 included the operation of the smart city system and the inauguration of the surveillance camera system. These projects were involved in applying AI and Big Data in management and administration; enhancing digitalization and providing online public services and online payment options for residents and businesses; completing the provincial data portal, shared and specialized databases; and ensuring information security, protecting personal data, and connecting data between State agencies.

To date, 100% of departments, sectors, and equivalent entities have digitized over 95% of documents and work files. All departments under the district-level People's Committees have digitized documents and work files, reaching 90% or more. Telecommunications infrastructure is increasingly complete and synchronized. The internet usage rate stands at 72%, with over 53% of households having internet connectivity.

At the conference, delegates presented discussions on the achievements in the field of information and communications and shared experiences regarding digital transformation efforts and solutions for 2025.

In his speech at the conference, Mr. Lê Thành Đô, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Điện Biên Province, praised and acknowledged the efforts and results achieved by the provincial information and communications sector over the past year. He underlined that the year of 2025 would be a significant milestone in comprehensive digital transformation, creating new momentum for the province’s socio-economic development.

Hence, Mr. Lê Thành Đô urged the provincial information and communications sector to focus on the following tasks: (1) Continuing to proposing on developing policies and plans that align with the Government’s digital transformation direction, while staying close to reality in the province; (2) Enhancing investment in telecommunications infrastructure, prioritizing the development of broadband networks and 4G and 5G technologies in areas lacking coverage; (3) Supporting small and medium-sized enterprises in participating in digital transformation; promoting the application of digital technology in production and business. (4) Increasing the percentage of residents using basic digital services, from digital identity and online payment accounts to digital skills.

On this occasion, the Prime Minister awarded certificate of merit to two collectives; and the People’s Committee of Điện Biên Province granted certificate of merit to two collective and five individuals for their excellent achievements.
