In Bó Mạy village of Mường Ảng commune, the family of Phạm Thị Thúy was among those receiving this vital support. The coffee plant holes were dug according to technical standards to ensure they were ready for the 2026 planting season. Phạm Thị Thúy shared that with a small household, the assistance from the militia and self-defense forces made the work much faster and less strenuous.
Participating in these efforts, Lò Văn Hùng, a militia member in Mường Ảng, noted that in addition to their training duties, they frequently help villagers with tasks such as leveling foundations and cleaning village roads. These acts of service have significantly strengthened the bond between the military and the civilian population. Over recent years, the Mường Ảng commune Military Command has excelled in its local defense and military duties, including combat readiness, recruitment, and militia training tailored to the mountainous terrain.
First Lieutenant Lường Văn Thơ, Deputy Political Officer of the Mường Ảng commune Military Command, emphasized that the militia must remain rooted in the community. Beyond training, they consistently support the people in disaster prevention and search and rescue efforts.
Since early April 2026, following the province’s direction, the unit has coordinated with other forces to help policy-beneficiary and disadvantaged households prepare their land for coffee and macadamia trees. Supporting the people has become a regular mission for the provincial armed forces; in 2025 alone, over 15,550 personnel and 188 vehicles were mobilized for disaster relief and recovery.
This year, following Provincial Plan No.1850/KH-UBND, the provincial Military Command established a steering committee for the “Peacetime Điện Biên Phủ Campaign - Agricultural Restructuring and Experimental Low-Altitude Economic Models.” The province aims to dig over 21.6 million holes, covering approximately 12,000 hectares, which includes 5,930 hectares of coffee and 6,070 hectares of macadamia.
To complete this massive workload, the province plans to mobilize around 14,150 people, including 900 militia members and 1,250 regular soldiers focusing on helping poor and solitary households. Additionally, 150 hole-digging machines have been mobilized through social resources to reduce manual labor and accelerate progress in difficult terrain.
The “Square-Star” soldiers play a core role at the grassroots level, balancing combat readiness with direct labor to support the people. The sight of militia members working side-by-side with villagers in production or disaster relief has become a familiar and cherished image. Through these simple yet practical deeds, they are building a solid foundation for the “people’s heart stance” right from the community level.
