In 2025, Party committees and commanders at all levels promoted the core advisory role, proactively proposing to local party committees and authorities many guidelines and solutions to lead, direct, and organize the synchronous and effective implementation of militia and self-defense force work associated with national defense and security education suitable to the requirements and practical conditions of each locality and grassroots unit.

Thanks to that, the organization and operation of the militia and self-defense forces have been gradually consolidated and put into order; the aggregate quality is increasingly raised, ensuring the good performance of the role as a widespread mass armed force, the core in implementing national defense and security tasks at the grassroots level. Implementation reality shows that the militia and self-defense forces has promoted clear effectiveness in maintaining political security stability, social order and safety, contributing to creating a favorable environment for local socio-economic development.

The work of consolidating and building the militia and self-defense forces is in accordance with the provisions of law, ensuring both quantity and quality. The whole province currently has 130 militia and self-defense force establishments, of which 45 are militia establishments in the commune and ward block; 85 are self-defense establishments in agencies and units. Along with consolidating the force organization, the work of registering and managing citizens of eligible age for selection to participate in militia and self-defense forces is implemented seriously and in accordance with the law. Relevant agencies and units have proactively built plans, prepared well, and organized training for militia and self-defense officers in 2025 with 39 classes. Thereby, contributing to improving the level, management, command, and advisory capacity for the contingent of militia and self-defense officers at all levels, meeting the task requirements in the new situation.

In recent times, the militia and self-defense forces have always promoted a good sense of responsibility, ready to coordinate with functional forces to participate in ensuring safety for holidays and important political events of the country and the locality. At the same time, strictly maintaining the combat readiness duty regime; timely participating in responding to, preventing, and fighting natural disasters, search and rescue, and overcoming the consequences of natural disasters and incidents. Thereby affirming the indispensable role and position in the all-people national defense posture associated with the people’s security posture at the grassroots level.

Aiming to continue improving political mettle, qualifications, and capacity for management, command, advisory, training, and organizing exercises for militia and self-defense officers at all levels, the provincial Military Command organized training for militia and self-defense officers in 2026. The training content focuses on key, core issues, including: Political and legal education; closely combining economic, cultural, and social development with national defense and security consolidation in building and protecting the Fatherland; foreign policy guidelines of the Party and State; basic issues on the strategy of protecting the Fatherland in the new situation. Militia and self-defense officers are equipped with knowledge on building training plans, defensive combat plans, and protecting agencies and units; the work of building and consolidating a strong and widespread militia and self-defense forces.

Senior Colonel Nguyễn Văn Đông, Deputy Commander of the provincial Military Command, stated: “Through training, the Commander and Deputy Commander of the Military Command of the commune, ward, agency, and unit have a basis to perform well their assigned functions and tasks. Thereby contributing to the successful implementation of local national defense and military work when implementing the 2-tier local government.”

Closely following the direction of the provincial Military Command, in 2025, Regional Defense Command Board 3 Na Son and the Military Command of Thanh Yên commune proactively deployed full participation in training classes for militia and self-defense officers. On that basis, the People’s Committee of Thanh Yên commune directed the commune Military Command to prepare well in all aspects for militia training; organizing thorough understanding and serious implementation of training content according to the approved plan. Training assurance work is given special attention. From repairing and renewing types of target boards, models, and training aids; repairing and perfecting the system of training grounds and fields to building training plans, lesson plans, and lectures, all are carried out seriously and in accordance with regulations.

Lò Văn Thi, Commander of the Military Command of Thanh Yên commune, said: “Thorough preparation in all aspects helped militia training in 2025 be deployed seriously and according to plan, contributing to improving the aggregate quality, combat readiness, and task performance of the local militia force.”

With the attention to close leadership and direction of party committees and authorities at all levels, the militia and self-defense forces increasingly meets well the requirements of national defense and security tasks in the new situation, contributing to maintaining political stability and social order and safety from the grassroots level.
