Through publications of Điện Biên Newspaper and Broadcasting-Television Station, as well as other media agencies, the Party’s guidelines and the State’s policies and laws are promptly conveyed to ethnic communities. At the same time, aspirations and concerns from grassroots communities are reflected to authorities at all levels in a timely manner, helping strengthen public trust, build social consensus, and promote socio-economic development in highland areas.
In the first days of June, we visited Huổi Nhả village, one of the villages in Mường Pồn commune that still faces many difficulties. Located about 10 kilometers from National Highway 12, although its roads have been concreted, the village still lacks access to the national power grid and mobile phone coverage. As a result, residents’ access to information remains limited. Under such circumstances, printed newspapers delivered to the village continue to serve as a valuable source of information, helping local people stay updated on current affairs and better understand the Party’s guidelines and the State’s policies and laws.
Along the road leading into the village, Lò Tuấn Thành, an official of the Culture and Social Affairs Division of Mường Pồn commune, shared: “People do not always have the opportunity to travel to the commune center to access information. Therefore, the press plays a very important role for local residents. Articles about effective economic development models, examples of people overcoming hardship, or State support policies all help residents learn and gain additional motivation to develop their livelihoods and stabilize their lives.”
In remote and isolated villages, the press not only fulfills its role of information dissemination and communication but also contributes to improving public awareness, shaping perceptions, and fostering social consensus. Real-life stories reported from grassroots communities help residents better understand the Party’s guidelines and the State’s policies and laws, while also bringing local issues closer to leaders at various levels and to society as a whole.
Sitting on the veranda of his spacious wooden house in Huổi Nhả village, Lầu A Tủa shared: “In the past, people had limited access to information, so there were many things we did not fully understand. Now, through newspapers and other media channels, we have a better understanding of the Party’s guidelines and the State’s policies. We also learn about successful economic models in other localities and can apply them in our own village, especially community-based tourism models.”
In addition to bringing information closer to ethnic communities, the press has also promptly reflected voices from the grassroots level. Many issues related to people’s livelihoods, transportation infrastructure, education, healthcare, and production development difficulties have received attention from relevant authorities after being reported by the media. For this reason, the press holds a special place in the hearts of people living in highland areas.
Chảo Trố Phạ of Tá Sú Lình village, Sín Thầu commune, said: “In remote villages, people do not travel much, so information from newspapers and radio broadcasts is extremely important. Through the press, we learn about State policies and successful development models from other localities that we can follow. When our village faces difficulties or has issues that need to be raised, the media helps reflect them, and the authorities pay attention and work to resolve them.”
Behind every news article, radio program, and television broadcast lies the tireless effort of journalists and media workers. Reporting conditions in highland areas remain challenging. In some places, journalists must travel dozens of kilometers through forests, cross streams, and climb mountains to reach their destinations. Yet even in the most remote and difficult locations, journalists continue to leave their footprints, capturing the authentic pulse of life and documenting daily changes in border villages.
After more than a century accompanying the nation, the Vietnamese revolutionary press in general, and the press of Điện Biên province in particular, has affirmed its role as a pioneering force on the ideological and cultural front. As a province with a vast territory, rugged terrain, and a large ethnic minority population, the role of media agencies has become even more important in communication efforts, connecting the Party and authorities with the people and bringing policies and guidelines closer to the daily lives of highland communities.
Tao Văn Vin, Secretary of the Party Cell of Cấu village, Mường Chà commune, commented: “In many remote areas, people’s awareness and understanding remain limited. Thanks to the press, residents gain a better understanding of the law, social evils prevention, and other essential knowledge for daily life. This is a very important source of information for highland communities.”
Assessing the role of the press in the province’s development, Lê Thành Đô, Standing Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People’s Council, emphasized: “The province recognizes and highly appreciates the efforts and contributions made by journalists in Điện Biên, resident correspondents of central media agencies, as well as numerous specialized media sections and programs. They have become a bridge connecting the Party, authorities, and the people, helping create social consensus and effectively serving the province’s development goals.”
From printed newspapers and radio and television broadcasts to today’s modern digital platforms, the journey of journalism continues uninterrupted. In highland regions that still face many challenges, every piece of official information delivered carries knowledge and trust, helping strengthen the relationship between the Party and the people. The press continues to accompany society, serving as a bridge that brings the Party’s vision closer to the people while conveying the voices of the people to authorities, sectors, and localities.
