Identifying agricultural restructuring as a critical task to help people rise out of poverty, Quài Tở commune has issued resolutions and action programs. It focuses on communicating, mobilizing, and guiding people to boldly shift their crop structure, gradually replacing inefficient crops like upland rice, cassava, corn, and plum with developing perennial crops suited to the area, climate, soil, and which bring stable income, such as: coffee, macadamia (759ha), pear (119ha), star anise (85ha), cardamom (83.5ha), sa nhân (77.4ha), and some precious medicinal plants under the forest canopy (3.3ha of sâm Ngọc Linh and sâm Lai Châu). The commune maintains stable areas for key food crops and proactively introduces high-yield rice and corn varieties into production, thereby increasing production value and ensuring food security.
The commune communicates and mobilizes people to actively apply scientific and technical advances to production, attracting and creating favorable conditions for organizations and individuals with capital to invest in project models. Infrastructure for in-field transport and irrigation canals in concentrated commodity production zones is invested in and consolidated, basically meeting production needs. The commune promotes digital transformation, shifts small-scale, household production to cooperative group and cooperative models, and actively pushes production linkage and product consumption to accelerate the development of circular and clean agricultural production models. Currently, the entire commune has 8 cooperatives and 31 cooperative groups implementing production linkage along the value chain and product consumption; 7 products have achieved 3-star OCOP certification. This contributes to shifting the agricultural structure in a positive direction, significantly improving people’s income, and creating a foundation for Quài Tở to develop comprehensive and sustainable agriculture.
Identifying coffee as the key crop, Quài Tở focuses on expanding the raw material zone sustainably. The entire commune currently has 1,635.18ha of coffee, with 640.21ha newly planted, mainly distributed in Chế Á, Hua Sa A, Hua Sa B, Háng Tàu, and Sông Ia villages. The formation of large-scale specialized cultivation zones not only effectively exploits the advantages of climate and soil but also creates a premise for the locality to attract businesses, promote production linkage, enhance value, and build the Quài Tở coffee brand in the market.
Nhữ Duy Đông, Chairman of the Quài Tở commune People’s Committee, said: “In recent years, the coffee tree has truly become a sustainable economic development direction for the locality. Many households have boldly expanded their area and applied technology in planting, care, and harvesting, helping to improve productivity and quality. The commune is orienting coffee development towards organic methods, linked with brand building and geographical indications; and coordinating with businesses and cooperatives for production linkage and consumption guarantees. The goal is to form a stable raw material zone, making Quài Tở coffee a key product and creating sustainable livelihoods for the people.”
Along with developing key crops, Quài Tở focuses on expanding its livestock herd towards commodity production and biosafety. The commune encourages people to invest in breeding, apply disease prevention measures, improve barns, and use high-quality breeds. Many concentrated, semi-free-range farming models have been formed, bringing stable economic efficiency. Vaccination and disease control are implemented regularly, helping the livestock and poultry herd develop sustainably. As a result, the total herd has grown in both quantity and quality to over 137 thousand animals; this contributes significantly to the commune’s agricultural structure, becoming a notable source of income for many households.
Vàng A Thu, from Sông Ia village, shared: “In recent years, realizing that animal husbandry brings high economic efficiency, I boldly invested in building barns and expanding the scale of my herd. Thanks to technical training, disease prevention guidance, and periodic vaccinations, the livestock develops stably with few diseases, and economic efficiency has increased markedly.”
With the advantage of many streams and stable water sources, Quài Tở commune actively mobilizes people to convert inefficient agricultural land to aquaculture (mainly fish farming). It focuses on introducing new, high-quality varieties with short growth periods, suitable for the local climate, while encouraging organizations and individuals to invest in and expand cold-water fish farming. Currently, the commune has a total area of 46ha for aquaculture.
The results achieved affirm Quài Tở’s direction in agricultural restructuring is correct and effective, creating an important foundation for the commune’s stable and sustainable development. With the determination of the party committee and government, along with the people’s companionship, Quài Tở aims to build a modern, efficient agriculture, making an important contribution to building new rural areas and improving the quality of life for the people.
