The province has implemented various strategies to attract investment, enhance infrastructure, and focus on social welfare. By combining economic growth with the preservation of cultural identity, Điện Biên is laying a strong foundation for its goal of achieving rapid and sustainable development.

Under the leadership of the provincial Party Committee, the People’s Council, and the decisive management of the People’s Committee, Điện Biên has made significant progress across many sectors. The province’s infrastructure has been modernized, the investment environment has improved, and the people’s living standards are steadily rising. Alongside economic development, the province has focused on environmental protection and maintaining the cultural identity of its ethnic groups, ensuring social welfare and achieving sustainable development.

The economy has continued to grow, with a noticeable shift from agriculture and forestry to industry, construction, and services. The province has focused on administrative reform, improving the investment environment, and enhancing the provincial competitiveness index (PCI). As of 2024, Điện Biên’s PCI increased to 67.67 points, ranking 32nd out of 63 provinces nationwide.

In the first half of 2025, six new investment projects were approved, contributing to the growth of the province. Recently, the provincial government worked with Mitani Sangyo Group to explore cooperation in surveying and evaluating the biological potential of agricultural byproducts, aiming to build a functional food ingredient manufacturing plant in Điện Biên.

Agricultural restructuring has focused on increasing added value and sustainability, with the province promoting key crops such as rubber, coffee, macadamia, and high-quality rice. Điện Biên has also supported organic agriculture and high-tech farming, which has improved farmers’ income while protecting the environment. The province continues to enhance the quality of its OCOP products, with 138 certified OCOP products.

Tourism has been identified as a key economic sector. Điện Biên is well-known for the historic Điện Biên Phủ victory, and it has immense potential for eco-tourism, cultural tourism, and gastronomy. In the first half of 2025, the province welcomed about 824,900 tourists, including 7,301 international visitors.

In infrastructure development, major projects are underway, such as the expansion of the Điện Biên Airport and the construction of new roads connecting economic zones. Rural infrastructure, including bridges and roads, has also been improved, facilitating goods trade, tourism, and border exchange.

With the motto “Develop the economy while improving the material and spiritual lives of the people,” the province has focused on providing cultural and social services. Điện Biên now has 12.68 doctors per 10,000 people, 32.1 hospital beds per 10,000 people, and a 94% health insurance coverage rate. Telecommunication infrastructure has been enhanced, with 100% of social centers now covered by mobile broadbands (3G, 4G).

By implementing comprehensive strategies and ensuring the full participation of all levels of government and the people, Điện Biên is creating a solid foundation for its rapid, sustainable development, contributing to the country’s overall progress.
