Điện Biên increases agricultural product value through linkage chains

ĐBP - In recent years, production - processing - consumption is becoming an inevitable trend of the agricultural sector.

The direct participation of purchasing and processing units in stages from building raw material areas and technical guidance to product underwriting helps farmers feel assured about output, raw material sources are better controlled, agricultural product quality is improved, and the consumption market is expanded.

Mường Ảng coffee is a brand no longer unfamiliar to the people of Điện Biên as well as the whole country. But a few years ago, the Mường Ảng coffee area often fell into the situation of “good harvest, bad price; good price, bad harvest.” Coffee growers depended on purchasing traders, and many households even cut down coffee trees because they did not see a long-term direction.

To exploit and develop coffee trees sustainably, the party committee and authorities of Mường Ảng district previously intervened in a timely manner. Many information dissemination sessions were organized right at villages with the direct participation of party committee leaders, authorities, and specialized departments. Through information dissemination, explaining to people to understand the value and potential of coffee trees, affirming that cutting them down while prices are low is a hasty choice.

Agricultural officials went down to the gardens to check, guide people to care for and restore degraded coffee areas, and apply technical processes to ensure input coffee quality for enterprises. Mobilizing people to maintain production helped stabilize raw material areas and reinforce trust so that people continue to stick with the local key crop.

Parallel with information dissemination, Mường Ảng proactively worked with enterprises to grasp purchasing needs and act as a bridge for consumption linkage. Mường Ảng coffee product promotion activities were promoted through participation in fairs, trade promotion events, and local specialty introduction channels. Thanks to that, Mường Ảng coffee is increasingly known more widely, and product value increases gradually over the years.

Lường Văn Tiện, from the Việt Bắc Coffee Import Export Company Limited, said: On the basis of working sessions with representatives of the party committee, authorities, and people, we signed production and purchasing linkages with households in the area. The enterprise commits that in case market prices drop low, the Company will still purchase at a stable average level, helping people not to suffer losses.

Not stopping at output commitment, the company also organizes technical training on pruning, care according to each growth stage, guiding the use of plant protection drugs, and fertilizing with correct dosages. Thanks to that, annual coffee productivity and quality increase, and the rate of uniformly ripe fruit is higher.

Unlike coffee, Tủa Chùa ancient Shan Tuyết tea has long been famous thanks to its characteristic flavor and rare natural conditions. However, spontaneous exploitation, manual processing, and consumption through traders made the tea value not commensurate with its potential. The appearance of the Hương Linh Company Limited helped shape the brand for Tủa Chùa Shan Tuyết tea products. The enterprise links with tea planting and exploiting households; guides harvesting with correct techniques and timing; and invests in processing machinery according to quality control processes.

Nguyễn Mỹ Linh, Director of the Hương Linh Company Limited, shared: Tủa Chùa ancient tea only promotes its value when harvested according to standards and processed according to the correct process. People have precious tea trees but previously did not know how to exploit them effectively. We stepped in to turn that raw material source into branded products with a position in the market.

Thanks to linkage, Tủa Chùa’s Shan Tuyết tea products have been present in many provinces and cities and initially accessed the international market. Stable fresh tea bud purchasing prices help hundreds of households have sustainable income sources. Especially, the efforts of the party committee, authorities, people, and enterprises were met as expected when in August 2025, the provincial People’s Committee approved the “Tủa Chùa” geographical indication map for Shan Tuyết tea products. The Intellectual Property Office granted the Certificate of Geographical Indication Registration for Tủa Chùa Shan Tuyết green tea and Shan Tuyết Pu-erh tea products. This is the legal basis, a step affirming the geographical origin, quality, and reputation of Tủa Chùa Shan Tuyết tea products.

Not only coffee or tea, but many other agricultural product groups of the province are also shifting towards chain production. Some large domestic and foreign investors have begun to pay attention, pouring capital into macadamia, rubber, and high-quality rice areas, creating additional motivation for the crop structure transformation process.

Recently, within the framework of a courtesy call to provincial leaders of Điện Biên, the Mavin Group Joint Stock Company - 1 of the 10 largest foreign enterprises investing in agriculture in Vietnam stated that if conditions are created, the unit plans to invest in 1 animal feed factory, 1 agricultural product processing factory, and 1 organic fertilizer production factory. The company commits to applying new, modern technologies, upholding environmental protection work. The total investment in the first year for Điện Biên is expected to be from VND 400 - 450 billion, focusing on building and developing a closed complex for animal feed, production farms, applying high technology to optimize production, creating an ecosystem coordinating with the people of Điện Biên to develop livestock farming and create jobs for workers.

Immediately after the courtesy meeting with provincial leaders, on December 7, the Mavin Group Joint Stock Company had a survey and working session with Chiềng Sinh and Búng Lao communes. Here, the enterprise representative presented the project overview, focusing on biosafety livestock models, building raw material areas, applying closed chain linkage production processes, meeting food safety requirements, and increasing income for people. The project is expected to be deployed on 209ha in 3 villages: Phang (Búng Lao commune), Hiệu and Dửn (Chiềng Sinh commune), implemented in stages. The goal is to bring scientific - technical progress into production, support breeds - techniques, organize product underwriting, and form stable linkage chains.

Tạ Mạnh Cường, Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the People’s Council of Búng Lao commune, said that the locality identifies this as an important opportunity to shift agricultural structure towards commodity orientation. When enterprises invest methodically and link closely with people, raw material areas will be reorganized more scientifically, livestock processes ensure safety, and output is stable. The commune government commits to accompanying, supporting site clearance, creating land funds, and propagating so that people clearly understand the benefits and feel assured to participate in the model.

Reality from Mường Ảng coffee, Tủa Chùa Shan Tuyết tea as well as investment projects under linkage chains recently in the province shows that when farmers, authorities, and enterprises participate together in every stage from production to consumption, agricultural product value will be raised. More importantly, these models will create a premise for Điện Biên agriculture to develop towards sustainability, modernity, and have a position in the market.
