This programme is part of a journey to Điện Biên by a delegation of artists from Hồ Chí Minh City. The artists performed musical pieces celebrating the Điện Biên Phủ victory and praising the homeland and the beauty of Việt Nam.
Speaking at the programme, Nguyễn Thọ Truyền, Deputy Head of the Hồ Chí Minh City Party Committee's Commission for Publicity and Education, emphasised:
“This is an opportunity for the city's artists to deeply reflect on the heroic and resilient examples of revolutionary soldiers and the immense sacrifices of previous generations that have brought about today’s independence and peace. Through this journey, we hope the city’s artists will gain new inspiration and material to continue creating and performing works of high historical and traditional value, particularly in the lead-up to the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification.
This is also a chance for young artists to better understand the value of peace, independence, and freedom, fostering patriotism, a sense of responsibility, and a determination to protect the sovereignty of their homeland. It contributes to spreading the positive traditional values of the Vietnamese nation, encouraging and motivating people from all walks of life to unite and work alongside the Party and the State to lead the country into an era of progress, for the happiness of the people and the prosperity of the nation.”
At the event, delegates and the audience heard moving reflections from young artists, who expressed heartfelt gratitude and honoured the tradition of uống nước nhớ nguồn (remembering one’s roots), paying tribute to the immense sacrifices of past generations in the nation’s fight for independence and freedom.
Meritorious Artists Phi Điểu and Lê Thiện also shared their experiences. Both are Southerners who regrouped to the North, where they trained and became cultural ambassadors, performing across battlefields, including in Điện Biên during the war. Returning to Điện Biên after more than 70 years, they spoke of their deep emotions and their joy in seeing how the once war-torn land has transformed into a thriving and vibrant community.
During the programme, the delegation of artists from Hồ Chí Minh City raised funds and donated 50 gifts to policy beneficiary families, 30 gifts to disadvantaged families, and 30 gifts to underprivileged students in Thanh Luông Commune, Điện Biên District, with a total value of VNĐ110 million.
Fashion designer Việt Hùng also contributed by donating premium áo dài fabric to 25 teachers in difficult circumstances in Mường Ảng District and Điện Biên Phủ City, with a total value of VNĐ125 million.
