Chairman of Điện Biên provincial People’s Committee meets French Ambassador

ĐBP - On March 16, Mr. Lê Thành Đô, Deputy Secretary of the Điện Biên provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Điện Biên provincial People’s Committee, hosted a courtesy meeting with a delegation from the French Embassy in Vietnam, led by Olivier Brochet, Ambassador of the French Republic to Vietnam. Representatives from several provincial departments and sectors also attended the meeting.

During the meeting, Chairman Lê Thành Đô emphasized that Điện Biên has collaborated with the French Embassy in Vietnam in the fields of culture and tourism, achieving many positive results. In the agricultural and environmental sectors, the province is currently implementing the Nậm Rốm River Basin Multi-Disaster Management Project, funded by official development assistance (ODA) from the French Development Agency (AFD).

Điện Biên is also actively working with AFD to finalize approval procedures for the Integrated Water Resource Management Project, aimed at improving livelihoods, adapting to climate change, and fostering socio-economic development in Tuần Giáo district. The project has a projected total investment of over VND 1.389 trillion and is expected to be implemented between 2026 and 2028.

As part of its official visit to France in November 2024, the Điện Biên province’s delegation took a visit to the Caen Memorial Museum. Following the trip, Điện Biên province directed relevant agencies to conduct research and propose content for a cooperation agreement between the Điện Biên Phủ Victory Museum and the Caen Memorial Museum.

With a strong commitment to strengthening the friendship and cooperation between Điện Biên and French organizations, Điện Biên hopes that through the French Embassy, it can further introduce the province to individuals, organizations, and investors in France. The province seeks support and funding for additional programs and projects, as well as assistance in connecting French businesses and investors to invest in Điện Biên’s cultural and tourism sectors. Additionally, Điện Biên looks forward to engaging with consulting partners to enhance the quality of urban lighting planning and exchanging expertise on preserving and displaying large-scale military artifacts in open-air museum settings.

Expressing his deep appreciation for the warm welcome reception from Chairman Lê Thành Đô and Điện Biên’s leaders, Ambassador Olivier Brochet reaffirmed his commitment to fostering cooperative and friendly relations between France and Vietnam, particularly with Điện Biên. Recognizing the long-standing partnership between Điện Biên and its French counterparts, the ambassador pledged continued support and expressed confidence in the promising prospects for future collaboration and development.
