Volunteering for the community
With the spirit of “Youth are present wherever they are needed, youth are there for any difficult task,” the union members and youth of Điện Biên province have enthusiastically participated in the youth volunteer movement, joining hands for community life. A key highlight is the youth projects and tasks implemented by Youth Union committees at all levels, attracting a large number of participants. In the first nine months of the year, 15 provincial-level youth projects and 219 grassroots-level youth projects and tasks were carried out.
A typical example is the “National Flag Road” youth project, which the provincial Youth Union coordinated with Điện Biên Tourism Co., Ltd. and local people to mobilize youth to implement in celebration of the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution (August 19, 1945 - 2025) and National Day. The project has demonstrated the patriotism of the young generation, creating a scenic highlight that attracts residents and tourists to visit and check-in at Mường Thanh rice field and the terraced fields of Pu Nhi commune.

Joining hands to build new rural areas and civilized urban centers, Youth Union committees at all levels simultaneously launched peak days for “Volunteering to build new rural areas” and “Volunteering to build civilized urban centers” with many practical activities. They participated in mobilizing resources to build roads, bridges, and lighting projects for rural roads, as well as maintaining and expanding civilized streets. In volunteering to protect the environment and respond to climate change, union members and youth actively participated in “Volunteer Saturday” and “Green Sunday” activities with meaningful actions such as caring for and protecting trees; cleaning the environment, clearing bushes, and clearing drains; removing illegal advertisements and flyers; and guiding and assisting visitors at historical sites.
Contributing their youthful energy to ensure social security in the area, Youth Union committees have connected and mobilized social resources to organize free medical examinations, distribute medicine, give gifts to poor households, and provide scholarships for disadvantaged students. They have also donated clothes, books, and school supplies to poor children and supported the construction of “Red Scarf” houses, “Happy Houses,” and schools in difficult areas. Responding to the program to eradicate temporary and dilapidated houses in the area, the Provincial Youth Union mobilized and coordinated support to build 15 houses for poor households with a total budget of over VND 1 billion. During the floods in early August that caused heavy damage to people and property, the Provincial Youth Union raised over VND 2.4 billion to support affected people and mobilized more than 1,500 union members and youth to help people overcome the consequences, including moving houses and property out of areas at risk of landslides.
Vàng A Chù, a union member from Tủa Chùa commune, shared: “Upholding the pioneering role of youth, my fellow union members and I in the commune actively carry out youth projects and tasks. We regularly participate in environmental protection activities, repair village roads, dig pits for waste disposal, and plant trees. We also contribute our labor to help disadvantaged households develop their production and build houses for the poor.”
Pioneering in defending the Fatherland
Along with volunteering for community life, union members and youth take the lead in defending the Fatherland through concrete actions. They have promoted awareness and responsibility among youth in implementing the strategy for national defense in the new situation. They have also mobilized people to strictly abide by the Party’s guidelines and the State’s policies and laws, fight against crime, and participate in patrols to protect the national border. Youth Unions at all levels have done well in encouraging and motivating young people to register for military service examinations and have organized cultural exchanges to welcome new recruits, as well as meeting with, encouraging, and giving gifts to young people enlisting.
Implementing the “March Border” program, the provincial Youth Union organized a youth journey to a national border marker and held a flag-raising ceremony, singing the national anthem at border marker number 49 in Nà Bủng commune. They also visited and gave gifts to the soldiers of the Nà Bủng Border Post and inaugurated and handed over the “Lighting up the border” project. This past summer, the Provincial Youth Union coordinated with the A Pa Chải Border Post and Nà Tấu Prison to organize the “I Love My Fatherland” journey and a flag-raising ceremony at the A Pa Chải Flagpole in Sín Thầu commune, presenting 100 national flags and 100 photos of Uncle Hồ to households in the commune.
The Youth Unions of the armed forces have effectively implemented the movements “Army youths forge virtue, practice skills, take the lead, be creative, worthy of being Uncle Hồ’s soldiers in the new era” and “People’s Public Security youths study and follow the six teachings of Uncle Hồ - pioneering, creative, volunteer, achieving feats for national security,” ready to take on and excellently complete all assigned tasks.
To ensure security and order in residential areas, union members and youth maintain models such as the “Youth self-managed road for security and order" and “Neighborhoods without youths involved in social evils.” They also improve the quality of youth volunteer patrol and self-management teams to ensure traffic safety and order at the grassroots level.
Mùa Chiến Thắng, Secretary of the provincial Youth Union, affirmed: “Promoting the heroic tradition of Điện Biên Phủ, today’s young generation is ready to take on difficult tasks to contribute to society. Through concrete actions and deeds, union members and youth have shown their enthusiasm and aspirations, contributing to the building of their Điện Biên homeland.”
