Every Monday afternoon, the review classes at Trần Can High School in Điện Biên Đông district are lively and energetic. The school currently organizes 20 review classes for all subjects relevant to the graduation exam. Among them, the two mandatory subjects, Mathematics and Literature, each have six classes, while elective subjects such as History and Geography have four classes each. There are three classes for Economic and Legal Education, and one class each for Physics, Chemistry, and English.
Despite having only two students in the English class, the school still organizes the review class. Triệu Thu Hương, the teacher responsible for the class, arrives early to tutor the students. She shared: “Although there are only two students, I was assigned by the school to prepare a tailored review plan. I review foundational knowledge and practice different types of test questions, closely following each student’s abilities. For each phase, I design quizzes to assess their progress and guide them on the best ways to prepare."
It is known that the average score in English for the school’s students in the 2024 graduation exam was below 4 points. Currently, the three of them are striving to achieve a score of 6-7 points. Besides the two weekly tutoring hours allowed, Hương has also created a Zalo group to send learning materials and frequently communicates with the students to motivate and guide them. The school has three English teachers, all of whom are ready to support the students when needed.

Lò Thị Lan Anh, a student in the English graduation review class, shared: “At first, I felt a bit anxious and pressured because there were so few students in the class. But it’s fortunate that I received such careful tutoring and guidance from teacher Hương, who dedicated so much time to help us. Although there is no charge, the teachers are very dedicated in preparing us for the exam, which is truly helpful for our exam preparations.”
At Trần Can High School, there are 232 students in the 12th grade this school year. “With care and responsibility, all 12th-grade teachers voluntarily and enthusiastically participate in the free review sessions for students preparing for the graduation exam. The teachers have put a lot of effort into creating lesson plans, designing tests, gathering materials, and guiding the students. Last year, Trần Can High School achieved a 100% graduation pass rate, and we aim to maintain that result with the continued efforts of both teachers and students,” said Nguyễn Hữu Đà, Principal of the school.
At Mường Nhé High School, the same situation is unfolding. Circular No.29/2024/TT-BGDĐT has not interrupted the review sessions for 12th-grade students. Teachers at the school are ready to provide free extra tutoring for the students. All subjects with students taking the exam have review classes, even subjects like Biology that only have one student enrolled. Lê Trường Giang, Principal of the school held that Mường Nhé is a remote border area with many difficulties, and most students cannot afford extra tutoring. To support them and improve their graduation exam results, the school consulted with teachers. All teachers agreed to voluntarily participate in tutoring the 12th-grade students for free in the afternoons.
Currently, Mường Nhé High School has organized 13 review classes for different subjects, and teachers proactively prepare lesson plans, materials, and tests for the students. With the allowed time limit of no more than two extra hours per week per subject, teachers, together with the school, strengthen the basic knowledge of the students and offer additional review for those who need more in-depth training, based on their abilities and goals.
An important factor emphasized by Principal Lê Trường Giang is: “Since there are limited extra tutoring hours, teachers focus on teaching methods, developing students’ independent thinking skills, encouraging self-study, and guiding them to review on their own at home. Our goal is to help students understand and be able to solve the exam questions on their own efficiently.”
Additionally, teachers also provide one-on-one tutoring for students at risk of failing the exam and participate in the self-study classes in the evening to assist students who have difficulties or do not fully understand the material. This model is being implemented not only at Trần Can High School and Mường Nhé High School but also at all high schools across the province.
