We arrived at Cà Phê village, Thanh An commune, as the local people were meeting to agree on renovating the intra-village road. Here, we met Ms. Bế Triệu Thị Quỳnh, a lively, approachable, yet resilient and decisive woman. Simultaneously holding the roles of Village Chief and Head of the Cà Phê village Women’s Union Branch, with a clear, strong voice and a scientific, coherent way of running the meeting, she created a lively atmosphere, making the villagers both listen attentively and boldly contribute their frank opinions. After the village meeting, Ms. Quỳnh took the opportunity to discuss with the members of the Cà Phê Village Women’s Union about maintaining environmental hygiene and planting flowers along the roadside.
Ms. Bế Triệu Thị Quỳnh is beloved by the people of Cà Phê village because she is also an outstanding model of economic development in the locality. Taking advantage of her available land, she built an integrated garden-pond-livestock model, which both serves her family’s needs and creates a stable additional income. Thanks to her eagerness to learn and apply new techniques, her model has brought clear economic efficiency and has been visited by many households in the village for learning purposes.
With her exemplary, enthusiastic, and “dare to think, dare to act” spirit, Ms. Quỳnh has inspired many women’s union members to boldly develop their economies, contributing to the increasing prosperity of Cà Phê village.

Ms. Bế Triệu Thị Quỳnh shared: “When doing social work, I always determine that I must try my best to complete the tasks assigned by the Party and the State, so that the people in the village are united and agree to develop together. At home, I increase production by raising pigs and chickens, farming fish, and growing vegetables to improve our lives. When I succeed, the people see it and are motivated, and we all try together to make our village more prosperous.”
Within the political system of Điện Biên province, many female officials are holding important positions, such as participating in the provincial Party Executive Committee and as provincial delegates to the National Assembly. In the 2020 - 2025 term, the proportion of female civil servants, public employees, and workers in various sectors and fields has increased year by year. For example, at the provincial General Hospital, the female force of officials, doctors, and medical staff currently accounts for over 60% of the unit’s total staff, with nearly 200 people. This is a team that is professionally skilled, competent, and rich in a spirit of responsibility and dedication to patients. They are doctors as well as mothers and sisters, contributing their intellect and effort to the cause of public healthcare while also fulfilling their roles in the family, clearly demonstrating the courage and qualities of women in the medical field in the new era.
Doctor Nguyễn Thị Thúy Hà, Head of the Department of Geriatrics - Cardiology and Head of the Women’s Affairs Committee at the provincial General Hospital, shared: “In recent years, the hospital’s Women’s Affairs Committee has always cared for and encouraged our female staff to strive to complete their professional tasks well, while also preserving and promoting the qualities of women in the medical field with dedication, responsibility, and compassion. Besides professional work, we regularly organize exchange activities and share experiences to help them balance work and family. Every female staff member of the hospital clearly understands that no matter what position they hold, they must make every effort to contribute to building an increasingly strong hospital collective, meeting the public healthcare needs in the new period.”
In the field of economic development, women in the province have made many important contributions. Currently, the entire province has over 300 female directors and entrepreneurs, over 40 female cooperative directors, and thousands of successful businesswomen. Whatever their position, they are always exemplary, daring to think and act, and are increasingly affirming their roles and status.
Ms. Pờ Diệu Ninh, Vice Chairwoman of the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee and acting Vice Chairwoman of the Provincial Women’s Union, said: “In all fields, politics, economy, culture, health, and education, more and more exemplary women with the moral qualities and capabilities of modern women are emerging. The position and role of women are increasingly being enhanced.”
In the current new period, along with women across the country, the officials and members of the Điện Biên provincial Women’s Union have affirmed their position and role in the family and society, ready to join other forces in building an ever-developing locality.
