Popularizing traditional values through experiential activities

ĐBP - Educating the younger generation on patriotism is a meaningful and pressing task today. Experiential activities not only serve as a playground but also aim to awaken national pride, helping young people inherit and promote the nation’s fine traditions.

At the Điện Biên Phủ Victory Museum, collaboration with schools to organize the “We Are Điện Biên Soldiers” experiential program has gradually become a regular activity. Students have the opportunity to role-play and experience what it was like to be Điện Biên soldiers in the past. This helps deepen their understanding of the nation’s heroic history, the sacrifices, hardships, and immense the great contribution of the forefathers in the struggle for national independence and freedom.

The “We Are Điện Biên Soldiers” experiential activity is organized at the Điện Biên Phủ Victory Museum.

Ms. Vũ Thị Tuyết Nga, Director of the Điện Biên Phủ Victory Museum, said that coordinating experiential activities has been an annual event over the years. In 2024, the museum developed plans and organized experiential programs for three schools both within and outside the province, attracting nearly 500 students and teachers. These activities offer students the chance to visit, learn more about history - particularly the 1954 Điện Biên Phủ Campaign - encouraging and motivating the younger generation to continue and uphold the heroic traditions of Điện Biên Phủ.

Under the guidance of the museum’s staff, students take part in a variety of activities such as enlistment ceremonies, “Golden Bell Challenge” quizzes, cooking on Hoàng Cầm stoves, and supplying food and ammunition. The lively atmosphere requires teamwork and coordination among participants.

Experiential activities help the younger generation better understand the contributions and hardships of the forefathers.

Nguyễn Khánh Linh, a student from Class 11B2 at Thanh Chăn High School (Điện Biên District), shared: “Through these experiential activities and the stories told by the museum staff, I feel even prouder of our nation’s glorious history. These activities are fun and meaningful, providing me and my friends with more knowledge about history and a deeper understanding of the difficulties and hardships faced by soldiers during the fight for independence. My favorite activity was the food and ammunition supply challenge because it requires teamwork and collective strength.”

In March 2025, the Điện Biên Phủ Victory Museum coordinated experiential activities for two schools of Lê Quý Đôn Gifted High School and Thanh Chăn High School, attracting nearly 200 students and teachers. Thanks to careful and well-organized preparation by the museum staff, along with the students’ enthusiasm and engagement, the activities took place in an exciting, competitive atmosphere.

In addition to activities at the museum, traditional patriotic education through experiential programs is also incorporated into major festivals such as the 2025 Ban (Bauhinia) Flower Festival. Athletes participating come from various districts, towns, cities, and schools across the province. Activities such as bicycle transport, ammunition carrying, and artillery hauling not only serve as competitions but also vividly reenact the image of Điện Biên soldiers during the resistance period, leaving a lasting impression on the public and especially the younger generation both inside and outside the province. Visitors and residents are also welcome to take part in these experiences.

Lò Văn Khánh Trường, a student at Phan Đình Giót High School, said: “I feel honored and proud to role-play as a Điện Biên soldier. I participated in two events: Pushing the transport bicycle with ammunition and the artillery hauling contest. Through these competitions, I hope the image of Điện Biên soldiers will spread more widely, so that more people will understand and appreciate their sacrifices and tireless efforts in fighting for national independence and freedom.”

These experiential activities serve as both playgrounds and bridges connecting history with the present, spreading and fostering patriotism, national pride, and awareness among the broader public, especially the younger generation - the future owners of the country.
