Điện Biên Phủ’s youths spearhead community efforts

ĐBP - In recent times, youths of Điện Biên Phủ city in Điện Biên province have taken the lead in volunteer activities for the community, mobilizing resources and support for disadvantaged children and promoting environmental sanitation efforts.

With the message “doing small things with extraordinary love”, the Your Visa project - founded in 2018 and comprising 40 students from Lê Quý Đôn Gifted High School, Điện Biên Phủ city High School, Lương Thế Vinh High School, and Thanh Chăn High School - recently organized a volunteer program to teach and give gifts to disadvantaged students at Tà Cáng Primary School in Nà Tấu commune, Điện Biên Phủ city. The program was carried out with the aim of raising students’ awareness about disaster prevention skills, while also encouraging and motivating disadvantaged students to strive for academic success.

As a result, nearly 300 students at Tà Cáng Primary School were provided with useful knowledge on disaster preparedness and response by members of the Your Visa project. The content was delivered through skits, real-life scenarios, and engaging quizzes, helping students understand what natural disasters are, how to respond to them, and how to escape from dangerous situations when they occur.

Phàng Khánh Huyền, a 5th-grade student at Tà Cáng Primary School, expressed her gratitude: “I am thrilled to have participated in the disaster prevention activities. I learned new skills and gained valuable knowledge. I hope there will be more programs like this in the future”.

In addition to the educational activities, the Your Visa project also presented 10 gift sets - including desk lamps, notebooks, pens, and essential supplies - to 10 disadvantaged students of Tà Cáng Primary School. Moreover, all students at the school received notebooks, pens, and candies. These meaningful gifts were made possible through fundraising activities organized by project members, which received generous support from individuals and businesses across Điện Biên province.

Mùa Phương Thùy, Acting Chair of the Your Visa project (Season 5), shared that the project comprises three stages. The first stage is a big game aimed at helping young people gain a deeper understanding the history of Điện Biên province. The second stage is a fundraising concert called “Du Ca”, where the group performs and attendees donate; all the funds raised are used to purchase essential items for students at Tà Cáng Primary School. The third stage involves organizing a teaching and gift-giving program for the students after acquiring the necessary items.

The project has conducted various activities, including visiting the Comprehensive Social Protection Center, Hoàng Văn Nô Primary School, and Núa Ngam Primary School, where they organized activities, such as making traditional cakes, teaching, and giving gifts. The teaching and gift-giving program at Tà Cáng Primary School marks the fifth season of the project. By participating in the project, each member aims to bring hope and confidence to disadvantaged children, fostering a brighter future. This experience also helps the members grow and motivates them to strive for excellence in their studies, ultimately contributing their youth, energy, and intellect to building a more beautiful country. In addition to the project, the youth of Điện Biên Phủ city are actively engaged in environmental protection activities, aiming to mitigate the effects of climate change.

Nguyễn Thị Bích Ngọc, Deputy Secretary of the Điện Biên Phủ city Youth Union, stated that the union has been promoting awareness about environmental protection among its members and the community. The youth union has organized various initiatives, including “Youth Month”, “Green Sunday,” and “Volunteer Saturday,” and has encouraged the use of eco-friendly products, reduced energy consumption, and minimized the use of plastic bags. They have also implemented a model where waste is exchanged for green plants.

Since the beginning of the year, the city Youth Union’s Executive Committee has organized 7 “Green Sunday” and 3 “Volunteer Saturday” environmental clean-up campaigns. Youth unions at all levels have participated in building infrastructure, landscapes, and protecting the rural environment through various activities: planting 150 new trees and caring for over 1,500 existing trees; cleaning up the environment, dredging canals, and collecting waste; improving and clearing 2.5km of roads; removing unauthorized billboards and advertisements; eliminating environmental hotspots; encouraging residents to plant trees in their neighborhoods and homes; promoting proper waste disposal practices among youth and residents.

These volunteer activities demonstrate the commitment and responsibility of young people in Điện Biên Phủ city towards their community. They also contribute to strengthening unity, gathering youth, and enhancing the quality of youth union organizations, ultimately supporting the city’s overall development.
