Autumn sentiments

ĐBP - On an August morning, golden sunlight spreads over the Mường Thanh fields. Along the Nậm Rốm River, groups of people eagerly capture photos at the Mường Thanh Bridge historical site, now resplendent with flags and flowers. Revolutionary songs drift with the cool early-autumn breeze, stirring pride and reflection. This autumn, Điện Biên’s people rejoice with the nation in celebrating the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day, their emotions a blend of sacred reverence, tenderness, and an unceasing aspiration for growth.

In recent years, Điện Biên has shed its old label as a “remote region.” Roads have opened, connecting the provincial center with highland villages, carrying new lifelines of development. The province has mobilized over VND 50,000 billion in total social investment from 2021-2025, 1.3 times more than in 2016-2020. Key projects include the VND 1,400 billion upgrade of the Điện Biên airport, designed to handle 500,000 passengers annually, linking the Northwest more closely with the country.

By 2025, the province’s road network is projected to reach 9,212 km, with 96.5% of communes accessible by car year-round. Major irrigation works like Huổi Trạng Tai, Bản Phủ, and Nậm Là reservoirs now ensure water for 4,000 hectares of farmland while aiding disaster prevention. Nearly 100% of urban residents have clean water, while 92.65% of rural residents use hygienic water.

On its development path, Điện Biên recognizes investment in people as the most sustainable strategy. From 2021-2025, the province streamlined its school network, cutting 108 satellite schools; over 55% of primary and lower secondary schools now meet national standards. More than 3,000 cadres, teachers, and civil servants received training in professional and digital skills.

meanwhile, nearly 12,000 rural workers were trained in trades, over 75% securing stable jobs. Local start-ups, from macadamia cultivation in Mường Nhé, to herbal processing in Mường Chà, to community tourism in Tủa Chùa, prove that when people access knowledge, technology, and timely support, highlands can thrive in their own way.

Administrative reform, the third strategic breakthrough, has also advanced. Điện Biên reduced 15 organizational units; more than 70% of procedures are now handled online. The new two-tier local government model is gradually proving effective, building a lean, transparent, citizen-centered administration. The province’s PAR Index ranked 35/63 in 2024, up 12 places from 2020, reflecting clear progress.

From a once-impoverished borderland and a battlefield of legend, Điện Biên today presses forward with comprehensive strategies: investing in infrastructure, developing human resources, and deepening institutional reforms. Its transformation is both a continuation of its heroic past and a promise for a prosperous, happy future.
